Lecce's elegant living room is Piazza Sant'Oronzo, partially occupied by the Roman Amphitheater dating back to the 1st-2nd centuries AD, unearthed at the beginning of the 20th century. In the square, the column rises, donated by the city of Brindisi in an attempt to adorn the bare square, topped with the statue of Sant'Oronzo, the city's patron saint. Opposite the statue stands the harmonious Sedile palace, the former seat of the City Hall, where the mayor received the citizens. Next to this building, there is the small church of San Marco, an important testimony to the existence of a colony of Venetian merchants who came to the city to engage in commercial activities. Another artistic testimony overlooking the square in front of the amphitheater is the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
