Located next to the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo dei Celestini was built between 1659 and 1695 according to a design by Giuseppe Zimbalo, later realized by Giuseppe Cino and Cesare Penna.
The facade features delicate ornamental designs alongside the windows and entrance, with dots and floral festoons, and constitutes an example of sober baroque, somewhat rare to see in eighteenth-century Lecce.
The orders of the facade are vertically divided by pilasters. The facade is enriched by two loggias placed on the sides, by numerous windows decorated with elaborate frames and by a frieze adorned with heraldic shields. The entrance portal, placed in the center, features a decoration of putti and clusters of fruit.
Once the seat of the Celestine convent, the palace is now home to the Palazzo del Governo (Prefecture) and the Provincial Administration.
