About this tour
Gilded mosaics and marble columns fill the Cathedral, the first stop of this Pisa Cathedral guided tour. Your licensed English-speaking guide meets you at Porta Santa Maria and walks you into Piazza dei Miracoli. Groups are limited to 15, and headsets are used from 7 people. Cathedral entry is guaranteed, so there is no wait at the ticket office.
The guide points out small details, such as the legendary love column, and explains how Pisa rose to medieval power. Outside, you stand in front of the Leaning Tower and learn the reason for its tilt, the rescue that kept it standing and the legends around it.
Climbing is optional. If you add the tower ticket, you go up at a timed entry through 251 steps for a view of the city. Allow about 35 minutes for the tower. Children under 8 cannot enter, and those under 18 must be with an adult. Bags go to the left-luggage office first.
The Baptistery, Camposanto and museums are not included, nor are transport and gratuities. Dress modestly for the Cathedral, covering shoulders, half thigh and back. On days with special religious services the guide may not be able to enter with you.
