Rodolfo Siviero was a Minister in the 1950s, but his greatest merit, to which his memory is most closely linked, was that of an art detective who returned to our country many important works of art that had been illegally looted during World War II. Upon his passing in 1983, he donated his house along with his collection of artworks and his library to the Tuscany region, which opened the ground floor as a house-museum. The house, interesting in itself, was built by Giuseppe Poggi, the main architect of the 19th-century redevelopment of the city. Among the finest works are some polychrome wooden statues dating back to the 15th century, gold ground paintings, terracottas, bronze figures, reliquaries, and antique furniture.
