Villa del Balbianello: the symbol of Lake Como You will reach Villa del Balbianello, built in 1785 at the request of Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, on the tip of the Lavedo promontory, on the remains of an ancient Franciscan convent. Over time it became the residence of intellectuals and artists, until it was acquired by explorer Guido Monzino, who restored it and donated it to the FAI in 1988. The complex includes residential buildings, a church, an elegant lakeside portico, and a panoramic garden with breathtaking views. It is also famous worldwide as an international film location for productions such as Star Wars: Episode II and Casino Royale.
