It was made by Domenico di Montevecchio between 1586 and 1590, under a project by Francesco Masini. It is placed just in the middle of Piazza del Popolo and it is one of the main symbols of the town. The material is the Istrian stone and the style resembles that of the 'Nettuno' in Bologna. On northern side, symbol of Pope Sixtus V; on the others, bishops and cardinals.
