In 1183 the building was given the name "the cross" for its location at the intersection of four medieval villages. Consecrated in 1507, in 1613 major construction projects began on the church, until the bell tower was completed in 1714. Prominent decorations and works of art can be admired inside. According to popular tradition, the altar, a stone arch, is the first sarcophagus where the martyr Alexander was recomposed.
