Construction work, which began in 1604, continued in 1611 based on a design by Vincenzo Scamozzi, a pupil of Palladio. The monumental Zandobbio marble facade was finally completed in 1928 by Ernesto Pirovano, in keeping with the original designs. Home to the Town Hall until 1873, it currently houses the Municipal Library, with a collection that includes scrolls, codices, incunabula, and music of great value and globes by Vincenzo Coronelli.

Opening hours:
In winter the Library is open Monday to Friday8.45 to 17.30; Saturday from 8.45 to 13.00. From July 13th to August 21st, the Library is open Monday to Friday from 8.45 to 14.00. Closed every Saturday in July and August. As well as in religious and civic holidays of the Italian national calendar, the Library is closed also on the eve of Easter, August 26 (the feast of the patron Saint Alexander of Bergamo), on Christmas Eve and 31 December.
