Dedicated to Umberto I, King of Italy and son of Vittorio Emanuele II, the monument was inaugurated in 1903 and was the work of the sculptor Edoardo Rubino (1871-1933). The statue, with its numerous symbolic meanings, consists of a pedestal supporting a block carved with the King's face, surmounted by the eagle as the symbol of the House of Savoy. It is located on the southernmost end of the Public Gardens, beyond the Roman walls and directly opposite the train station.
