As we set sail from the port of Milazzo, our journey takes us to the captivating island of Panarea, the smallest yet most enchanting of the Aeolian Islands. We'll dock at the picturesque port of San Pietro, where the island's unique charm and beauty await discovery. A short stroll from the port, the quaint village of San Pietro unfolds, with its characteristic white houses nestled together, surrounded by vibrant nature. Meander through the narrow streets and discover an array of eateries, shops, and boutiques. On foot or by local taxi, you can easily reach the island's main attractions, including the stunning Church of San Pietro, adorned with a valuable mosaic and boasting a breathtaking panoramic view from its terrace. Other must-visit spots include the secluded cove of Drauto, the sandy beach of Cala degli Zimmari, and the scenic promontory of Capo Milazzese, which offers breathtaking views of the crystal-clear sea and the picturesque bay of Cala Junco. Perched above, an ancient prehistoric village from the Bronze Age (1400 BC) reveals its secrets, featuring the remains of 22 oval-shaped stone huts and a quadrangular structure, likely a gathering place for the community. At 4:00 pm, we'll embark on a direct connection to the island of Stromboli, passing through the captivating volcanic caldera of Panarea. En route, marvel at the majestic volcanic formations that have emerged from the sea, including the islands of Formiche, Dattilo, Panarelli, Lisca Nera, Bottaro, Lisca Bianca, Basiluzzo, and Punta Spinazzola. Stromboli, affectionately known as "iddu," rises majestically from the depths of the blue sea. For millennia, this volcanic giant has been one of the most active in the world, displaying its raw power through frequent "Strombolian shots" – explosions of lapilli, ash, and magma that occur at regular intervals of 15-20 minutes. Upon arrival at the port of San Vincenzo "Scari," we'll find ourselves surrounded by a series of stunning black pebble and sandy beaches. A short stroll through the village leads to the picturesque Church of San Vincenzo, offering breathtaking views of Strombolicchio, also known as the "grandfather of Stromboli," where the island's lighthouse stands proudly. A short drive away lies the "Casa di Ingrid," a museum house where Roberto Rossellini filmed the iconic movie "Stromboli Terra di Dio" starring Ingrid Bergman. As the sun sets, we'll embark on a unique adventure, sailing under the Sciara del Fuoco to witness the mesmerizing display of incandescent lapilli from the sea. If we're lucky, we might even catch a glimpse of the lava river flowing into the sea, releasing massive steam columns, a phenomenon that last occurred in 2019.
