Details
In the serene Valcuvia valley, just a stone's throw from Varese and Lake Maggiore, a stunning country estate was once the proud possession of the Della Porta family - a wealthy and aspiring aristocratic clan with humble roots. In its early days, the rustic mansion boasted a charming rural charm, complete with wine press, cellar, and silk spinning mill. Fast-forward to the 18th century, when the estate underwent a dazzling transformation in celebration of the union between Giovan Angelo III Della Porta and the noble Isabella Giulini from Milan. Today, visitors can indulge in the opulent interiors of this summer retreat, replete with vibrant frescoes, clever trompe l'oeil, and majestic galleries adorned with elegant flower arrangements, all showcasing the epitome of Rococo elegance. Although many of the original furnishings have been lost to time, several precious pieces remain, including a resplendent golden damask canopy bed and beautifully crafted wooden bookcases preserving the family's archives. The rest of the furnishings were generously donated by benefactors to recreate the atmosphere of an 18th-century aristocratic abode. The sweeping vistas from the windows reveal the majestic Italian garden, a series of stone terraces ascending a hill, culminating in a picturesque "theatre" adorned with a tranquil fishpond and a winding path leading to a breathtaking panoramic viewpoint. In the 19th century, the estate was saved from decline by Senator Camillo Bozzolo, whose family heirlooms and extensive library remain an integral part of the mansion's heritage. Thanks to the tireless efforts of FAI, Villa Della Porta Bozzolo has been restored to its former glory, offering a captivating Italian haven where visitors can while away the day strolling through the park, exploring the mansion, and savoring a meal at the charming "La cucina di casa" restaurant.
