The State Archives of Modena are located in the palaces situated between Corso Cavour and Via Sgarzeria, built in the 1700s as a new wing of the Dominican friars' convent and used for offices in the early 19th century.
The Archive preserves documents from State Offices, letters on parchment, notarial acts up to the year 1893 (to access consultation, you need to know the name of the notary).
There are 2 Military Archives:
- Estense Military Archive from the 1400s to the 1800s
- Austro-Estense Military Archive (after the Restoration) from 1815 to 1860
They contain cartographic material, maps of fortifications such as the Citadels of RE and MO, Ferrara, etc..
There are also the archives of civil cadasters (former civil engineering).
