The Church of San Matteo is a church in Lucca located in the square of the same name. Already existing at the end of the 9th century, it was completely rebuilt in 1290, as attested by an inscription now preserved in an inner courtyard. To this phase of work, one can assign the central portal which reproduces, in forms now tired and repetitive, the scheme of the Guidetteschi portals, with the projecting lions on either side of the lintel. In the church was buried the chronicler and storyteller Giovanni Sercambi (1348-1424). It was closed to worship at the beginning of the 20th century.
