The stretch of coast between Positano and Vietri sul Mare, known as the Amalfi Coast, takes its name from one of the loveliest towns along it, Amalfi. Many other towns belong to the Coast as well: Atrani, Conca dei Marini, Furore, Cetara, Maiori, Minori, Praiano, Ravello, Scala, Tramonti and Vietri sul Mare. The whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a recognition of its extraordinary natural beauty.
Lush nature, a warm climate that is especially good for growing lemons, and the sea have been the keys to the Coast’s prosperity. Lemon groves have been part of the Amalfi landscape since the 11th century and are known for the quality of their fruit, with an especially intense color and scent. The Coast’s lemons are used to make limoncello, a liqueur with an unmistakable aroma, much loved by Italians and foreigners alike.
The Path of the Gods winds between the Amalfi Coast and the Sorrento Peninsula. It offers the magic of a breathtaking view and the pleasure of a long walk in nature: it starts in Agerola, which you can reach from Amalfi by bus, or on foot from Praiano up a rather steep stairway.
From Agerola, just follow the signs to the start of the Path of the Gods; from Praiano, you need to reach the Monte Serra pass and continue on trail number 02. From there you cross the Vallone Grarelle and arrive at Nocelle: to get down to the village, you can take a bus or walk down 1,500 steps that also pass through Arienzo. The whole walk is 7.8 km and takes about three hours.
