Palazzo Massoni is located at 24 Via dell'Angelo Custode in Lucca. The palace was built starting in 1668 for Giovanni Controni. In the first half of the 19th century, it passed to the Massoni family. Particularly evocative is the private garden, in its original 17th-century form. Four raised flower beds form as many squares, bordered by small walls decorated in the grotesque style, with mosaic-composed pebbles, bricks, and numerous fine marble mascarons. This decoration continues even in the basin that is located against the three walls that make up the perimeter of the garden, closed to the west by the back facade of the palace. This creates two orthogonal paths and four lateral paths where the mascarons and plants that protrude from the flower beds follow one another. In line with the palace door, there is a small grotto with a fountain on the front wall, consisting of a marble female figure, two eagles, and a rectangular basin with a coat of arms, supported by two dog statues.
