The Italian Museum of Comics and Image has its headquarters in the former barracks Lorenzini, prestigious building in the historical center of Lucca. Born in 2008 with the intention of combining fantasy, modernity and reality, the museum contains original works for fans and curious making the city of Lucca an important center for communication and image passionates.
The pleasant and surreal atmosphere of the Museum of Comics is given by the idea of the "old factory" which is composed of simple elements, such as iron doors and rough walls as black as ink, and technology, such as light panels with chameleon colours. Visitors enter into the kingdom of the stories and comics but did not remain passive in their visit. In fact, the public exhibition of comic pages is enhanced by the support of an information apparatus linked to the detailed explanation of the techniques used by the authors and an extensive catalog of virtual tables that you can use from computer workstations.
Interesting archives are those relating to the Guide to the Italian Comics and the City of Comics. In this interactive path, the attention of adults and children is taken of over 2,400 images arranged in various thematic rooms: from Mr. Bonaventure by Sergio Tofano to vintage comics such as Corriere dei Piccoli and Frugolino, Tex and Diabolik, Disney and Jacovitti.
Numerous exhibitions, projects and events are organized in the Museum of Comics, increasing its importance and its particularity both nationally and internationally.
The Italian Museum of Comics and Image turns out to be a living structure, the "house of fantasy where every day comics are celebrated" and not the "house of nostalgic appeals for the past."
