The Church of St. Christopher is located in Via Fillungo, the main street of the historical center of Lucca. Mentioned for the first time in 1053, the church played an important role in the political arena as the seat of the consuls of the Cause Lucchesi.
From the architectural point of view, the building represents an example of the influence by Pisan artists: an epigraph inside the church attributes the construction to the master Diotisalvi, identified several times as the author of the baptistery of Pisa.
In 1939-40, following transformations and restorations during various historical periods, a drastic change has resulted in the elimination of plaster, Baroque altars and fifteenth archways in order to make the church site dedicated to the memory of soldiers killed in the war.
The names of the soldiers were inscribed on the walls of the nave and the church of St. Christopher was closed to worship.
Today, the building is used as a building for cultural events and exhibitions.
