Embark on an unforgettable adventure to the rooftop of Europe - the majestic Mount Etna. As one of the most sought-after hiking experiences, this excursion will leave you in awe of the breathtaking beauty and raw power of Europe's highest active volcano. From the Sapienza Refuge in Nicolosi, take a scenic cable car ride to 2,504 meters, and then lace up your hiking boots for a moderately challenging 1.5-hour hike. As you ascend, you'll pass through a landscape dotted with numerous craters, including the 2001 eruption crater, and marvel at the surreal, moon-like terrain. Take regular breaks to capture the stunning vistas and rest your legs, before continuing on to the Cisternazza and Belvedere on the Valle del Bove. This panoramic viewpoint is considered the best on Mount Etna, offering a dazzling panorama of the 64,000-year-old volcanic depression. Take a moment to soak in the surroundings, snap some photos, and drink in the breathtaking views of the coastline stretching from Taormina to Syracuse. Next, push on to the Barbagallo craters, reaching an altitude of 3,000 meters, the highest point permitted. Here, you'll be rewarded with a privileged view of the summit craters, with their constant plumes of gas and steam. After taking in the sights, begin your descent, returning to 2,500 meters before boarding the cable car back to the Sapienza Refuge. As you stand amidst this rugged, beautiful landscape, with the vast sky above you, you'll feel on top of the world.
