The "Public Library of the People of Trieste" was instituted in 1956, immediately after the return of the town under Italian administration. With a special emphasis on the social objectives of promoting literature, the library, originally called “Public Library of the People”, was stocked with books on general culture and leisure that are now the subject of study and research. In 1999, it became the Public Library of Trieste and is situated in Palazzo Morpurgo, which has been totally renovated to suit the current trends in library services.
