Perched on Mount Titan, just 30 minutes from the coast, lies the charming city of San Marino, proudly guarded by its trio of medieval towers. Join us on a captivating walking tour to discover the unique essence of this tiny, yet historic republic, nestled within Italy's borders. As the world's oldest and Europe's smallest republic, San Marino boasts a rich heritage dating back to 301 AD. Our 45-minute adventure begins at Porta San Francesco, where we'll meander through the city's narrow, winding streets, taking in the ancient churches and two of the iconic towers, Torre Cesta and Guaita. Our journey concludes in the picturesque Piazza della Libertà, where the intriguing story behind the city's very own Statue of Liberty awaits. Along the way, you'll hear tales of the San Marino people's unwavering defense of their freedom over 17 centuries. But that's not all – you'll also delve into the realm of San Marino legends, including the fascinating story of a saint who befriended a bear! Other highlights of this tour include: • Exploring the Cava dei Balestrieri, a historic quarry where crossbow shooting was once practiced • Strolling through the 13th-century Passo delle Streghe, where young girls once danced around bonfires • Taking in the breathtaking views from the Il Cantone viewpoint and finding serenity in the beautiful Giardini Borghesi • Visiting the Basilica di San Marino, the site where the original settlement was established • Discovering a range of unusual museums, including the Torture Museum, the Curiosity Museum, and the Museum of Creatures of the Night As we wander, be sure to indulge in the local cuisine and wine at one of the many cafes and restaurants along the way. You might also take advantage of the lower sales tax to treat yourself to some shopping, picking up everything from fashionable clothing to leather goods and souvenirs – all at a lower cost than in the rest of Italy!
