A liberty style kiosk stands today in the place where, since 1897, Rocco Pradel and his family used to site their ice-cream cart in Prato della Valle, on the corner with Via Umberto I. The Pradels came from Forno di Zoldo, like many other remarkable ice-cream makers, and also like another fellow citizen, Ruggero Pieruz, ice-cream maker since the age of 13: he arrived in Padua in 1962, and took over Pradel's business in 1980, continuing the tradition of good ice-cream. In the 1990s, he set up the current 19th-century style, cast iron kiosk. Officially called 'È gelato' (It's Ice-Cream) but known among Paduans as gelateria Rocco, the ice-cream parlour is now managed by his son, Gianluca Pieruz.
At the kiosk of the Pieruz family you can still enjoy ice-cream in the traditional style: fresh milk, only natural ingredients and fresh fruit. Don't miss the typical nafta, a classic ice-cream in a glass covered with cream and black cherry, popular among students, today as in the past, which owes its name to the dark colour of cherry syrup. Even the panna in gelo, a frosted cream topped with chocolate syrup, is very popular nowadays.
