The opening date remains a mystery but it is likely that Bar Margherita's business started in the late 1800s. The place where it stands, in fact, was one of the most popular in the city: it is called Canton delle busie, that is the corner of lies, and was home to commercial mediators bargaining and stopover for goods shipped on the river. In the Historical, artistic, biographical, illustrated guide of Padua and its surroundings by Meneghesso (1926) the café is defined as stately and elegant evening hangout. Since 1981, its owner is Ignazio Aggujaro.
The bar has been completely renovated, and thanks to its internal rooms, in winter, and the shaded outside tables, in the hot season, located in one of the most striking corners of Padua, at the foot of 13th-century Palazzo della Ragione, it is a reference point for both tourists and Paduans, as well as students from the nearby university.
