At the corner between Prato della Valle and Via Belludi, one comes across this small shop, which leads back in time. The grocery store, in fact, retains 19th-century period furnishing, when the premises were occupied by a pharmacy, which in the 1930s moved on the opposite side of the street. Showcases, cabinets and shelves are filled with loose spices, sauces in jars, bar soaps, perfumes and aromas of the past. Even the doors and windows are vintage, while the sign is that of the grocery store started in 1936 by Giuseppe Preti, producer and dealer of oils, soaps and similar, in the Altichiero district.
Temple of memories, flavours and fragrances, the Drogheria Preti is a small museum of how people lived and worked in the city in the first half of the last century. Since 1999, Daniele Bettella, who took over the grocery store, has become its keeper. For the commendable way in which he still today runs the business of this «historic grocery store of Padua » he was invested, in 2007, with the title of Excellent Paduan.
