Best known to the Genoese as Palazzo Doria Spinola, this beautiful 16th-century mansion was built close the no-longer existing Acquasola city gate for Admiral Antonio Doria - a relative of Andrea Doria and a strategist to the Spanish Crown between 1541 and 1543. In 1624 the building went to the Spinola family.
As it now hosts government offices, or Prefettura, visitors may admire the frescoes on the façade and visit the frescoed hallway and square-plan entrance yard with a double order of loggias and exquisite stucco decorations.
The frescoes in the upper loggia are views of the city, portraying the far-reaching interests of its internationally ranking original owner.
