Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.
Naples is one big open-air market. A city with a soul.
Naples is one big open-air market. A city with a soul. Maybe not to everyone's taste. Full of motives for photographing life. Always interesting exhibitions in historical and religious buildings. A theater with a superb opera repertoire.

Very interesting, very crowded.
Very interesting, very crowded. Lots of eateries in the historic district but most of them not good quality. Be careful of prices and change. A lot of attempted cheating. Follow your host and tour book recommendations. Initially questioned why we stopped here (after 2 weeks in Sicily), but really glad we did. Waited 2 hours to eat at Ancient Pizza. Experience worth it but Pizza wasn’t. View of Naples Harbor from stop on on/off bus spectacular. Food at Volga excellent. Naples Duomo different than others. Walk, walk, walk. We toured Pompei and Amalfi from Salerno. Much saner city.

The central train station was great and the archeological museum was wonderful. However, I won't return to Naples. It was so dirty, covered in trash, smelly and overal just unwelcoming. I have traveled to Rome, Milan, Florence/Tuscany, Venice, Aosta and heard Naples was unclean compared to them, but I was honestly shocked at the disgusting state of the city. Very little pride from the citizens living there. I would strongly suggest staying near Pompeii or Herculaneum instead of commuting.

• Almost every place takes card, I used cash but was surprised to learn even fruit stands accepted card. I didn't need the cash at all.
• Most hotels and booking venues charge a separate fee that must be pain in cash on arrival, but it's very low.
• Food and drinks are delicious and cheap
• Best to make reservations for certain restaurants or eat a bit earlier (7pm) or later (10pm) if you don't have a reservation. Most restaurants will take you in you just have to wait a while.
• Try to stay near city center. Everything is very walkable, not once did i use public transportation.
• Try as much local food as possible. You don't need a 4 star restaurants to have amazing food in Naples. It's amazing no matter where you go.

I really liked Naples.
I really liked Naples. I had no preconceptions and was pleasantly surprised. It's big. Noisy. Grimy. A bit delapidated. But it has real energy. It felt authentic. We were there mid April so it was ideal weather for wandering the streets. Not too hot, and not cold by UK standards. We walked a lot. In three days we spent two exploring the city, downinn Campari spritzes and eating pizza, and I'm not big on pizza. (Is it so much better than in a decent London pizzeria e.g Franco Manca? Not really, it's still tomato on toast, but it is cheaper and more fun). The people were lovely. You'll come across brusqueness, of course, but mostly they were kind and welcoming and in the tourist hotspots most people talk a little English is your Italian is as poor as mine. And you can visit Pompeii, the Amalfi coast and the islands of Capri and Ischia very easily by train or ferry. It's not as beautiful as Rome or Florence – nowhere near – but in some ways all the better for that. It doesn't feel like a museum piece, it's a proper city with proud Maradona-obsessed inhabitants.

They say "See Naples and die" What a chaotic, colourful, noisy dirty and wonderful city. The ancient world meets the modern world and rich and poor, young and old are all mixed up together in a sprawling mass of humanity. We did the open top bus tour (preferred B line) you can do both routes in 24 hours from when you 1st get ticket stamped. The Catacombs are well worth a visit as is the Naples Archaeological Museum. Herculaneum would be my preference over Pompeii if you have limited time. Caught ferry to Capri and then another ferry to Sorento. Would have preferred just to have spent a bit more time in Sorento. Trains from Sorento to Naples easy. Generally found if easy to get around. Don't forget to sign in and out on the Metro like at home.
We made a long trip in Italy so we wanted to stay in a budget friendly place in Naples. Thus I chose this place. Our stay here was better than I thought. The room was super clean. The lady was helpful and kind. I usually ask for extra towels, but here there were plenty of towels in the bathroom. Another thing we liked was the extra plates, cups, trays and tea section in the hallway for visitors. The location was also practical for us, just a few minutes away from the train station.
Excellent accommodation with friendly, helpful staff. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Location is great with easy access to Napoli centrale station and metro. Plenty of food options nearby.
We read plenty of previous reviews about the bad neighbourhood but this was just a typical Naples area (maybe guests had only experienced other parts of Italy previously) - the accommodation is secure in a private building on a main street which is well lit and plenty of people around.
EVERYTHING It was new, clean but the absolute shining star was the staff hospitality! The room was very spacious, as well as the bathroom and the sitting area outside was lovely. The rooms are exactly like I would design. The community kitchenette is well stocked for breakfast, fresh fruit and snacks. I travel for a living and have never been treated better. Daniella is now my favorite person in all of Italy! We extended our stay in Napoli because of this hotel *****
The perfect location if you want to feel the real italian life. Very clean, the host is ready to help with any information. I don't spend too much time in house when I travel. The location of this old Italian apartment is fantastic. Two steps and you are in full Naples life. All Naples attractions are distance to a walk.
Highly recommend, again, for those who really want to visit Italy, not another hotel.
Extra spacious, Foro Carolino was the highlight of all our hotels on this trip to Italy! The place was also clean and had amenities you will need. Staff were extremely helpful and attentive. 4 stations by metro (2-min walk) to Napoli Centrale, we liked that it was away from the bustle but still near enough. Special mention to morning breakfast that is freshly prepared at the b&b, amazing!
Older building that they had totally remodeled to feel very current - but still left some cool touches, like being able to see the old flooring in the ceiling. Most comfortable bed we had across 4 hotels in Italy. The staff was very responsive by way of the Booking app so we had assistance at any time, even though there was no one as the front desk most of the time.
We were greeted very friendly by the staff upon arrival and our rooms were already available for us. We stayed 2 nights and wish we could have stayed more. The hotel location is amazing (less than 1 min walk from the main T-station of Naples). The breakfast we had there was the best we had in italy with a lot of variety and tasty food.
They are so kind and helpful.
I can say that it's the best hostel I stay in Italy. Beds are so good, rooms are very large and you feel like a hotel, not a hostel. Everything was amazing.
Highly recommended to stay. If I visit Italy again, I will stay here again.
Thank you so much for everything!
Great location , beautiful nice rooms , great bathroom amenities, Salvatore Ferragamo (but no body lotion ) bathroom a bit small . 2 people can barely move inside
Very friendly & helpful staff
Great breakfast buffet selection.
First hotel in Italy having plant based
milk . Comfortable beds
Great views
The room is amazing, with a great view to an old church and a confortable bed, the bathroom was big and so nice, we had breakfast in our room and it was the best one I had in Italy.
The people working here are very nice and helpful, if I ever came to Napoli again, I will definitely choose Naplesuite.
Second time at this B&B. Still this is one of our favorite places in Italy. Anastasia was as always helpul and so nice. If you are going to Naples you should choose this place.
This time we had a car with us and the recommended parking lot by Anastasia, was nearby and everything was ok.
An absolutely amazing place to stay while visiting naples. Enrico is the best guy I’ve ever met in italy. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, showed us the places we should visit while visiting the city. Thanks again for everything, we had a great time in napoli :)
Wonderful! Your apartment in Naples, Italy, truly left unforgettable impressions. The separate shower, toilet, and bidet provided maximum comfort, while the cleanliness and convenient location made the stay even more enjoyable. The photos correspond to reality.
Good hotel for visiting Pompei, Sorrento as is close to Napoli railway and also city center.
Good breakfast, sweet and savory choices, very clean room, very helpfull staff (we got an early chech in for half of our group).
Neapoli pizza, best in Italy by far.
The host is amazing! So friendly and welcoming. The street outside is busy but the apartment is in a beautiful building that gets you out if the hustle and bustle. Beds are comfy and the shower is the best we have in all our trips to Italy.
Hillary was fabulous!
Of the four hotels and the villa we have stayed in so far on our trip to Italy this was the most outstanding accommodation!
Excellent location and amenities!!
We could only hope to return to this wonderful place!
Hotel was lovely. The staff were brilliant. They stored my bicycle, then helped me pack it and carried it to the taxi for me. Really appreciated it being tired after cycling across Italy
It was close to the station, and the room was very clean and comfortable! I highly recommend staying at this hotel! Thank you for the wonderful time in Italy!
