Hotel Continental Genova, hotel in Genoa

Located opposite Genova Principe Train Station, the Continental is a restored Art Nouveau hotel overlooking the city.

When we arrived we were informed that they moved us to the sister property next door "the Grand Hotel Savoia" From all appearances that was an upgrade for us at the same price. The hotel (savoia) was a beautiful property and the room was also very nice as well as comfortable. People at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to walk to wherever we needed to go and was extremely close to the train station to catch our train.

Hotel De Ville, hotel in Genoa

Well situated in the center of Genoa, Hotel De Ville provides air-conditioned rooms, a shared lounge, free WiFi and a restaurant. This 4-star hotel offers room service and a 24-hour front desk.

Once you are inside the hotel it is nice and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and bright. One of the staff even came to our car, down the street, as that was the closest we could stop, to direct us to the public parking and carried our bags back to the hotel. Honestly a few small tweaks would have made it a much better stay.

FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Genova is a beautiful old city with many gorgeous palazzos, churches and interesting streets. The harbour has many ships, historical landmarks and an aquarium. There are restaurants to suit every diner and pocket, from endless street cafes selling pizza and pastries to superb fine dining restaurants offering wonderful seasonal specialties. Great shopping too.

    A beautiful ancient city.

A beautiful ancient city. We visit the Aquarium and the lighthouse and walked in the city. The architecture is interesting and nice building and decorations could be find at any corner. It is a very good place to stop for a day or two while traveling in north Italy. Better to arrive when the weather is good and the view is clear.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. So many twists and turns through small alleyways. Felt magical. Great food scene. Felt like a local. Great small city vibe. Il genovese was our best dinner— very reasonable for a nice dinner. T/terra was a great cheap dinner find! Enjoyably food and 7 dollar pastas! We took a day trip to cinque Terre which was very easy by train. Unfortunately the hiking paths were closed for actual race. In town, we enjoyed the old city sites and the aquarium. Getting around was easy— download the transportation app and you can buy tickets on your phone! Machine tickets were often broken.

Parking was a bit challenging but the town is very large but beautiful. There was a good presence of police officers which was wonderful. They all seemed professional. The lunar park was was enjoyed by the children. The staff there where friendly and the rides seemed well maintained. The staff at the aquarium took time to explain and answer any questions. The aquarium was clean and the exhibits where well placed and planned offering both English and Italian descriptions of animals and sea life. Greatly appreciated by the only limited Italian speaker. The food in the aquarium though understandable limited was above my expectations.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. I went on a whim, because of a cheap Ryanair flight, and I am very happy I did! Small enough to travel around easily, and walk to most, if not all, the attractions, great food, very welcoming people, and a very intersting history. A relatively unknown gem.

The flat is comfortable and spacious enough for one or two people. The shower was excellent and had the best water pressure and consistent warm water of anywhere I stayed throughout Italy. The kitchen has everything you need as a traveller. Good books to read or thumb through. Nice cozy living room and bedroom. Beautiful neighbourhood far enough away from bustling Genova to feel a bit more of a chill vibe, but close enough to take a quick train or bus in. The sea is right across the road and there are great swimming spots.

The hotel is very well positioned right next to the main train station which makes it a very good base to start exploring the zone. And here I mean Cinque Terre as well as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli. It is also within walking range to the Acquarium and touristic port. The breakfast has multiple choices and the best caffee I ever had in a hotel in Italy at breakfast. The air conditioning worked like a charm and it was very efficient.

Grand Hotel Savoia is a trip back in time. It is a hotel offering the comfort, service, and elegance of a bygone era. Yet, it has all the modern conveniences one would expect. The rooms are large and the huge bathroom is first class. The big sink with expansive stone counter space on either side is pure luxury. The bed was also wonderfully comfortable. We found the staff to be friendly, patient, and helpful. It was a super value.

Going to Italy is always a pleasure and the owner made our days fun and easy. Francesca picked us up at the train station and it made such a difference. She is a fantastic person and businesswoman. The room was spotless, spacious and comfy. She left a lot of breakfast and coffee in the morning. The cleaner lady is also kind and hard worker.
