FAQs about hotels in Genoa

Ship Shape and Fancy Free

Right on the Ligurian coast, Genoa features Europe’s largest historic quarter and Italy’s largest seaport. As the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.

By the old port (Porto Antico), there are several bars and restaurants serving the local specialty, pesto. Other Genoese favorites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade, Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighborhood, where colorful boats bob up and down.

The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.

South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.

As you approach Genova Airport, look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the "Superb City." Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodations, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

Parking was a bit challenging but the town is very large but beautiful. There was a good presence of police officers which was wonderful. They all seemed professional. The lunar park was was enjoyed by the children. The staff there where friendly and the rides seemed well maintained. The staff at the aquarium took time to explain and answer any questions. The aquarium was clean and the exhibits where well placed and planned offering both English and Italian descriptions of animals and sea life. Greatly appreciated by the only limited Italian speaker. The food in the aquarium though understandable limited was above my expectations.

    Beautiful city.

Beautiful city. I went on a whim, because of a cheap Ryanair flight, and I am very happy I did! Small enough to travel around easily, and walk to most, if not all, the attractions, great food, very welcoming people, and a very intersting history. A relatively unknown gem.

I recently visited Genoa, and I must admit that I was disappointed with the city's cleanliness. The pedestrian streets emitted an unpleasant odor of urine, which negatively impacted my walks. After only two days of staying, I was eagerly looking forward to leaving as soon as possible. The only thing I liked was the aquarium. Certainly, I will not choose to visit this city again in the future.

My brother and I weren't there for tourist reasons as our father had suffered a stroke on holiday and we wanted to be therefor him and our mother. The apartment was everything we needed it to be. Central, convenient, modern, near restaurants, near the train station and near where out mother was staying. The quality of this property made a stressful time a lot easier.

The old historical city with all its alleyways reflecting life long ago and very characteristic in contrast to the luxurious Via Garibaldi featuring UNESCO world heritage buildings . The amazing view if you climb up the slope above the city. A huge range of original local shops instead of all the usual chain stores together with one of the best fresh fruit and veg markets I have ever seen . Disappointed with the new port area around the aquarium as full of kids and guys trying to sell cheap rubbish and counterfeit goods . Excellent food at Boccadasse (all bars, restaurants and street food ) as well as a leisurely stroll up to Santa Chiara. All easily accessible by bus 31 from Brignole station which is a stunning building in itself

The hotel is practically next to the Piazza Principale on...

The hotel is practically next to the Piazza Principale on the west side of town, closest to the Cruise Port. The short walk is gratefully flat. There are many restaurants and shops in the area within walking distance, and my room had a lovely view of the square. The room was immaculate, quiet, abd the bed was very comfortable. I had one day free to explore and walked to Christopher Columbus' home; you could take advantage of the train station being so close and go one stop to Genova Brignole and begin wandering from there. With proxinity to the train station, the B&B Genova is easy to get to, an excellent choice to stay before taking a cruise. I suggest that you should take a cab to the Cruise Terminal because with luggage, it is not an easy walk and longer than it looks on a map. The only down side is that they do not nave a restaurant, but the nearby options make that less important.

The flat is comfortable and spacious enough for one or two people. The shower was excellent and had the best water pressure and consistent warm water of anywhere I stayed throughout Italy. The kitchen has everything you need as a traveller. Good books to read or thumb through. Nice cozy living room and bedroom. Beautiful neighbourhood far enough away from bustling Genova to feel a bit more of a chill vibe, but close enough to take a quick train or bus in. The sea is right across the road and there are great swimming spots.

The great hotel with very comfortable room. The location was perfect, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Special thanks for service in Ukrainian language and very friendly and responsible staff who do really care what they do. The bed was comfortable, heating was great and can be tuned in a way comfortable for you. Everything was super clean. It's worth noting the nearby parking, though it comes at a cost of 18 EUR per 24 hours, but it is worth to use it for a better experience. Overall, a wonderful experience.

My stay at the Olympia was perfect for my visit to Genova. The friendly hosts, Agostino and Angelo were helpful and enthusiastic with suggestions and recommendations for dining and sights. The location is ideal for exploring the city (old and new areas easily accessible). My room, on the smaller side, fit my budget and had all the amenities needed. A great value for the area, and for Italy in general. I recommend Hotel Olympia - my home in Genova. 🇮🇹

The hotel is a treasure: ideal location right in the centre of Genoa. It is, in the best sense, old school. The room was quiet and calm, not too big and not too small. I used the shared bathroom, but there was a basin and a bidet in the room. At this very reasonable price it was a bargain. And the hosts were friendly and easy-going. Just a pensione/hotel as you found in Italy in the old days.

Such a convenient location on the way to the Italian coast & Tuscan hills. And such good value.
