FAQs about hotels in Lecce

A Southern Limestone Gem

Lecce dazzles every visitor offering one of Italy’s best preserved walled historic centres. Its wonders include tasteful traditional cuisine, rich wines, and charming shops. Located near the crystalline waters of both the Adriatic and Ionian beaches, it is a perfect base to explore the Salentine Peninsula.

Its origins are unclear, but it is believed that dates back to the 12th or 11th century BC, when Italic tribes founded a settlement nearby, which Romans later occupied and relocated to its current position. The pages of its history are filled by Byzantine rulers, several invasions, a Norman rebirth, and an annexation to the Kingdom of Sicily.

Its distinctive Baroque style is combined with well-preserved Roman remnants. Don’t miss the historic centre during sunset, when the light creates a perfect contrast between the blue sky and the mild-yellow colour of the limestone buildings. St Oronzo Square houses the Roman Amphitheatre, while the outstanding Holy Cross Basilica is a must. Don’t miss the magic of staying in a hotel or B&B in Lecce’s Old Town.

The city is serviced by the local railway station, while Brindisi Airport is 45 km away. Whether you’re searching for rural accommodation in the surroundings of Lecce, a resort on the nearby beaches, or a cosy guest house in the centre, check out the deals available on Booking.com.

Lecce is a beautiful city with a rich history and gorgeous architecture. It's not so big as to feel overwhelming or chaotic, however. It has a calm and chill vibe that larger Italian cities farther to the north don't possess. It's an easy place to get to know and to feel at home in. More so than the rest of Italy, the far south is on more of a Spanish schedule, shutting down in the afternoon for a few hours before opening back up for the late afternoon and evening. Dinner is typically late - 10 pm or after. People considering a trip to Puglia in general should be adaptable in their eating schedules. Lecce is not on the sea but is only 30 minutes from each side of the Salento peninsula. The two coastlines are quite different and offer different experiences; both are worth exploring at length. However, one will need a car. Fortunately, car rentals are easy to come by and are quite affordable by European or North American standards.

Lecce… and especially Dimora San Giuseppe… were a wonderful surprise! I was originally planning to stay 4 nights here and 4 nights in Bari. First I asked if I could keep my room for 2 more nights… and the decided to skip Bari altogether and just stay in Lecce. The quirky little restaurant right across the street, dall’antiquario, is small, inviting and serves the best local food you could find. I ate there every night of my extended stay! If you’re coming to Puglia, stay in Lecce and enjoy the hospitality of Dimora San Giuseppe and the neighboring dall’antiquario! Unforgettable!

Lecce is charming and has many beautiful churches (most every place charges entrance). The old walled in town is compact. I found 2 coliseums. Big problem finding food. They close most everything for at least 3 hrs in the afternoon. Most restaurants don't open till 7pm. Good luck finding anything gluten free. It's a bread & pasta diet.

Beautiful town, small and easy to walk around. Lovely restaurants & cafe’s. Al Ventuno was great for apperitifs, lunch & drinks. Very affordable. La Bocca Bistrot had a lovely dining experience - delicious food with a different approach to the Italian cuisine. Recommend. Tranquilo also a lovely restaurant & bar right at the amphitheatre. Overall a great trip to Lecce, recommend 2-3 days.

The mediaeval centre is beautiful and traffic free which adds greatly to the experience. Our booking was ideally located for relaxed wondering around bars, restaurants, roman ruins and churches. We had a delicious celebration meal at one recommended restaurant but vegetarians need to be discerning as many places have a very meat-focussed menu.

Lecce (the old part) is a beautiful city but because of this, it is also overridden with tourists, so noisy. The municipality is keeping it very clean nevertheless (not a small feat with some many people). One can rent bikes to go to the beach or explore the surroundings. This is not needed for the inner city (the often washed paving stones can be slippery) as everything is close by.

I loved Antonio's hospitality and kindness! I came to La Finestra Sul Convitto without any expectations and he made our stay exceptional. Antonio truly cared about his hosts, making sure that we had the best time in Lecce. Of all the hotels I stayed during my South of France and Puglia trip, this was the best. Even the breakfast included the best pasticiotto I had in Lecce. Plus the hotel is located in downtown and not too far from the train station. I recommend this place to everyone! Writing this actually makes me want to go back now! :)

Our experience in Lecce would not have been the same had we not stayed in Donna Teresa. Location of the hotel was wonderful. It was close to restaurants, bars, train station and two different free parking areas by walk. The room was so clean and exactly the same as pictures; cozy, well equipped, new. Our host was amazing, lovely and welcoming. We took recommendations for beaches and nice restaurants including wine tips! We tried different local pastries each day during breakfast. Highly recommended!

Dimi House is a fantastic place to stay in Lecce. The shared facilities where you have your breakfast is just absolutely beautiful and super cosy. The rooms are lovely and gives you the perfect romantic feeling, and then the shower is great! 😄 would definitely come back! The owner is also very sweet and helpful, and made good recommendations even to other great destinations in Italy. You will not be disappointed. Everything about Palazzo Pio was fantastic. What a beautiful place, a step back in time, in a perfect location! Palazzo Pio is another world - the antiques, the family history, the mosaic floors, the light, everything! And Tommaso Pio is the most gracious and kind host there ever was. Staying here made our stay in Lecce just perfect, and it is so close to the old town where winding streets hold all sorts of delights. I am excited to one day return to Palazzo Pio for a longer stay!

Great, fully renovated boutique b'n'b, just minutes from the Old Town Lecce. Everything is refurbished with attention to detail, from terazzo floors in the entry hall to handrails and doorknobs. We stayed in a spacious and comfortable room with modern bathroom. The host Franceco was discreet and helpful. The b'n'b also has a nice and stylish communal area. Free on-street parking. If you plan to explore the baroque masterpiece that Lecce is, this accommodation is a perfect base.

We absolutely loved our stay at Vico dei Bolognesi. Located in the heart of lecce in the most beautiful setting, our room was quiet, cool, extremely clean and tastefully furnished. The owner, Francesco went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. He took the time to give us great tips on where to eat and what to visit. The cafe of the hotel is lovely and we enjoyed a exquisite breakfast! We will definitely stay again if in the area!

It was a last minute decision to stay overnight in Lecce. Our host was immediately in touch and even though we checked in late she made sure she helped us in. The property is a palatial beautiful place that we were overwhelmed with. A jacquizi bath, beautiful tiled floor and exquisite decorations made it perfect. We couldn’t be happier with the booking. John has a beautiful home in the middle of the old town in Lecce. So much history in the building and he's done an amazing job renovating and decorating with his own art. He helped us find parking which is a massive help if driving around Puglia and the location was so central that you're never more than a few minutes walk from anything. He also gave us some great tips for restaurants and beaches for those doing day trips.

The hotel is in a former castle dating from 1419. Particularly impressive are the salon and the original frescoes. Reception allowed me an early check-in and a late check-out, very nice. Breakfast is made of four choices, one more interesting than the other: the "percorso salentino" is excellent! Chilling out at night on the tower overlooking Lecce was a treat. Highly recommended, I'll come back!
