Travelers who stayed in Bologna near Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) have said good things about Hotel EMI, Hotel Del Borgo, and Villa Aretusi.
World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

I've waited to visit Bologna for years and when I finally got there it did not disappoint. This must be the coolest city in the world. Culture, amazing food, lots of live music, friendly people. I felt safe travelling alone here.

Bologna is perfect to visit on foot (visitor cars cannot come inside the ZTL without a fine), with a compact old centre and lots of interesting shops, restaurants, cafes and historic buildings. A lively vibrant city, but it does also seem to have a fair number of homeless and beggars, particularly by the railway station and nearby park, which are not recommended as places for tourists to venture after dark.
We passed through the station in the daytime and it seemed fairly safe, although completely chaotic, with hopeless signage to the different exits.
The night we arrived, we were very late due to a delayed flight, and there were no restaurants open. We were lucky to happen upon a late night pizza kiosk and gratefully bought takeaway beer and pizza. It seems as though restaurants generally stop serving around 9.30 - 10pm, so if you're arriving late, your options may be limited!
One thing that may be a little off the typical tourist trail is to go looking for Bologna's hidden canals - these can be spotted in various places around the Via Piella, where there are also places to eat overlooking the waterways.

Bologna is a fantastic city. The food was amazing.
Bologna is a fantastic city. The food was amazing. The was plenty to see and do and the people were friendly. We walked several miles of the streets to seekout what was published and happen upon things we did no know of that were quite interesting. Bologna ideally located. We plan to return for an extended stay to act as a base point to visit other cities via rail. La Taverna Di Roberto is a fantastic place to eat. We returned there for our last night. Bologna City Walking tour was a great way to learn the city and history and determine what you wanted to go back to spend more time. Taxis are relatively inexpensiver compared to other cities in Italy and a great what to get to the airport or train. Avoid booking a Stay at a place called Home Sweet Luxury. It is not at all what it is advertised and horrible living conditions.

A lovely and unique city with miles of covered walkways which were both practical (keeping you dry and cool) and architecturally interesting. The city is very walkable with lots of interesting buildings, good restaurants and cafes. It seemed much less touristy than Rome or Florence. You get a sense of being amongst locals going about their day to day business. Giardini Margherita is beautiful and worth a visit. The walk up to The Santuario di Madonna di San Luca is also worthwhile and a very good workout with 471 steps and 3.8km of covered walkway!

Beautiful historic city with most attractions easily accessible by foot. The Archaeological Museum and Pinacoteca Nazionale were highlights. San Luca Sanctuary walk was spectacular but quite a lot of uphill; best done in the morning, to arrive in time for the skydome access which opens at 10am.

Bologna is steeped in history.
Bologna is steeped in history. I recommend doing a guided walking tour and the San Luca express to the Basilica. The shopping was also pretty good. Bologna is also a sports city with Imola about half-hour away from Bologna (Emilia Romagna Formula One). The soccer stadium is also fairly close to the historic city centre. Bologna is a gastronomic delight - fresh Parmigiano Reggiano, aged to perfection. Fresh pasta, handmade. And the gelato!
Old Bologna building reflecting city atmosphere. Located so close to Piazza Maggiore which is the heart of city. Be prepared for the smells coming outside cause there is beautiful flower shop just across the street also lots of marcados nearby. If you do not like raw fish smells be prepared cause there is another local store near the entrance of hotel, it hadn’t bother me. Staff were so helpful even they made me a small city route that I just had 3 or 4 hours in Bologna. You’ll adore rustic decoration of both room and lobby.
This property was perfectly located for a visit to Bologna. A 10min walk from the station and you are there, and it’s only 10 more minutes to get to the centre of town. The property was modern, new, exceptionally clean and had everything we needed! It was such a great value for money, and everything was exceptional. The included breakfast was delicious, and the staff and owner were incredibly friendly and accommodating, giving us as many suggestions and recommendations for sight seeing as we needed. Our best stay in Italy!
Luckily, I booked this place, because the reception was open very late, with a friendly guy there to greet me and check me in! Flight was delayed 6 hours (Thanks, RyanAir) and I arrived at the airport at 02:30! There were taxis available (thank God!) at BLQ at that hour! Arrived at the hotel at 03:00. The guy was kind and caring, and personable, and the check-in was fast and easy. I will definitely stay there again. Also, a 6 minute walk to Bologna Centrale train station! Very cute hotel - loved the eclectic decor.
Location wise it’s ok about 15 mins to city centre, 25 mins to Bologna Centrale. The studio room is quite small but everything you need is there. I cooked eggs for breakfast and I love the coffee machine! There were also some snacks on the fridge and on the cupboard. It’s actually my first holiday using an apartment as I prefer to stay in a hotel, but when I was looking for a place to stay at that time, there were only 5 hotels available and majority are bed and breakfast/studio type so I decided to give it a try
Located in the very heart of Bologna city center, you can connect with plenty of public transport in couple of minutes.
20 min walk from central station
15 min by bus to arrive at Bologna Fiera
7-10 min walk to visit the cathedrals, etc
Plenty of restaurants within 2-10 min walk
Cozy apartment, clean, coffee machine, kitchen included for travelers who want to cook by themselves but hey you are in Italy so go out have some fun and eat the excellent Italian food.
We arrived during floodings in Emilio-Romagna region but the host met us outside with an umbrella. The house was magnificant, renovated art deco building from the 1930s. The room was TOP-Notch. Host helped us plan our Italy stay and warned us about flooded roads which was very helpfull. The bus stopped right outside and took you for 1 euro to central Bologna. Breakfast was nice and familier. Highly recommend. We will stay here next time we visit Bologna for sure.
This is a beautifully decorated small hotel quite close to the centre of Bologna. Everything was walkable and the area felt safe at night. Breakfast in the garden was a lovely start to each day with plenty of selection. All the staff were knowledgeable, polite and friendly, going the extra mile to keep all guests happy even though it was a full hotel and peak season. Beds were comfy and shower was good. Definitely on my recommend in Bologna list.
I love Bologna so finding a hotel so close to the centre was a joy. Great location, some quirky rooms decorated by artists - including the one we stayed in! Tea and coffee making facilities. Superb breakfast. Also Prossecco, filled croissants and crisps available in the guest lounge(!) Great location for exploring the city, about a 10 min walk from the main rail station with much of this under the colonnades that Bologna is famous for.
We are staying at this hotel for the second time. The first time was during the pandemic. It is much more relaxed now. We have been using Bologna as a gateway to other parts of Italy and this hotel is ideal for late of early flights to and from Bologna Airport. I managed to walk around a little bit and I saw that there was a commercial centre not far from the hotel. We also had a dinner at the restaurant and the food was amazing.
As our plane has a delay we landed in Bologna after midnight and the shuttle didn't work at that time. The hotel is 20 min walking from the airport which is good to have a walk after siting in the plane for 2-3hours. (We wasn't lucky to find a taxi below 20€-30€ which is quite a lot for 2.5km 6min drive)
However on the next day the shuttle bus from the hotel to the airport is very convenient, comfy and quick.
Everything. Class and comfort at every turn and yet, probably because it was Bologna, one of the most reasonable in terms of price. Close to the train station, and not a far walk from the center of town. This was truly luxury compared to other hotel rooms at similar prices. Bed, bathroom, shower, chairs in room, breakfast, lobby, and staff were all excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
It is well-equipped quiet place close to Bologna Mazzini station where it is easy to catch a train to Bologna Centrale or Prato (to transfer to Firenze), Marco was a very helpful and understanding host for us, we were able to check-in quite late (due to delayed flight), everything in the apartment is planned very well, breakfast was very good comparing to similar places we stayed in around Italy
Lovely hotel in a great location, room was clean and well presented, if not slightly strange arrangement, with the en suite and cloak handing space off the main bedroom which is quite narrow. No view but large bed, and well appointed, for central Bologna reasonable value and a stones throw from central attractions. Loved the free taxi from the airport!
This hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Bologna, near many restaurants, as well as the very fun University district. It was especially convenient to be able to come back to the hotel to rest during the day. Also, the two terraces offer beautiful views of the centre of Bologna. The staff was very helpful and the room was very clean!
We needed a hotel close to the Bologna airport in order to catch a 6:00 AM flight. The hotel was very efficient in this regard; the 4 am shuttle to the airport was on time, and we easily made our flight. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant the night before our flight; the dinner was very good and prices weren't bad.
Location was good, close to the train station (8min walk) and there’s a train directly to the airport that’s less than 10 mins.
Apartment was spacious, clean and good value for money. It was about 15 mins walk to Bologna main square. There was a nice restaurant across from the hotel with good pizza and pasta.
This is a well located hotel. We had a very large room when compared to other hotel rooms in Bologna and in general, Italy. The staff was very helpful, the room was quiet and clean. Convenient underground parking which was a great surprise. We would definitely stay here again.
the hotel was amazing! in the centre of Bologna ! it was warm and clean and nicely decorated! the receptionist were very helpful with my transfer to the airport ! I even did check in one hour earlier! I will definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Bologna
Excellent hotel at ideal location.Close to airport and main train station of Bologna-Bologna Centrale-.The staff was very friendly and helpful and fulfilled all our needs. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet and the breakfast was super. Will visit again!
the hotel is situated in a very quiet neighborhood, not too far from the city center, not too far from Bologna Centrale train station, near to public transport means.
