The most popular landmarks in the city are San Vitale, Mausoleo di Galla Placida, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and Dante Alighieri’s Tomb, whilst the Cervia Thermal Baths and Mirabilandia theme park are great options for a day trip.
After a day of discovery and sightseeing, be sure to head towards the coast for a revitalising swim or relaxing sun bathe at one of the several beaches scattered along the coastline of the Adriatic Sea.
Ravenna Station offers direct routes to Bologna and Rimini. Booking.com offers a range of accommodation options in Ravenna, Cervia, Milano Marittima and throughout the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Ravenna was better than I expected. We arrived by cruise ship and instead of rushing off to another city (Venice or Bologna) we chose to spend one night in Ravenna. Accomodations were near the train station and the historic churches and sites. Ravenna has beautiful mosaics in several locations and a well organized tour pass system that is easy to access.

Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic.
Wonderful place! It was so very pretty and historic. The city allows you to visit the museum of Alighieri Dante, one of the most important poet in Italy's culture. Also you can visit the Dante Alighieri's tomb. The city have a lot of bar to drink, seat and listen music, restaurants to eat the excellent and traditional italian food (for example piadina).

Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit.
Ravenna is a beautiful place to visit. It's easy to get around the town center and there are a lot of places to eat--across all price ranges.
So many beautiful mosaics. It's worth taking a tour for these. We did a guided tour with Silvia Giogoli at guidaravenna.com and it was worth the cost. She is so knowledgable about the history of the city and the mosaics in particular. Really gives you a better appreciation of the art.
If they block the guide's name and website, it was the guided walking tour offered via the booking site called Mosaic Tiles Guided Tour.

Great to see the mosaics and Dante's tomb. All the mosaics within
walking distance. Excellent restaurants. Good to have a look around the harbour and stroll along the beach.
Excellent train connection to Bologna.
It is worthwhile to just walk in a meaningless way to enjoy the city and its people. The people are very friendly and very helpful.

One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing...
One full day in Ravenna was perfect for visiting the amazing Byzantine mosaics. Be sure to go to Sant' Apollinare Nuovo to get your tickets to the various sites--two require a timed entry, so have your day planned. All of the mosaics are wonderful and well worth seeing, but our favorites were the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia behind the Basilica, and Cappella di Sant'Andrea inside the Archiepiscopal Museum. Dante's Tomb was neat, as were the mosaics under water at the Basilica di San Francesco. And off the main tourist trail is the little Arian Baptistry. . . heck, you gotta see 'em all!
To get the most out of seeing these treasures, read up on the Arian Heresy and the conflict between the Goths/Arians and the Justinian Christians. Different hidden symbols everywhere. There's a short summary in the Rick Steve's tour guides that's helpful.
And when you're tired of mosaics, stop at the covered market for some amazing food. It would be a great "half-way" point for lunch (wish we'd known).

Great little city with virtually everything within walking...
Great little city with virtually everything within walking distance. The late antique basilicas and their mosaics are truly astonishing and there is a great selection of bars, cafes and restaurants as well. Go to Profumo di Piadina for a great lunchtime snack! Museums are also good, especially the Mosaic Museum Tamo and the Classe Museum, presenting Ravenna's astounding history in an impressive and engrossing manner, one of their best I've visited and only a short t bus ride away.
This is a lovely facility--great bed, handsome room. There are beautifully furnished common rooms--lounge and library--to hang out and read, a courtyard and a good breakfast. The location is dead center in town--could not be better. The staff were wonderful. There were no taxis or Ubers available on a Saturday morning to get us from the train station. Hotel had sent a welcome message, so I messaged back to say we were stuck and they found a car for us, also one of Ravenna's few taxis the next morning.
the apartment is situated in the historical place exactly in the city center but on the street which is quiet in the evening. A very nice view to the Sant Vitaly cathedral. The beds are comfortable, I would buy such pillows to my own apartment)). Shower is good, no problems with water. Very big dining room with a fire place, don't know if it works, I was much more interested in the AC which was ok))). I recommend. Next visit to Ravenna will check first of all if this apatment will be available.
A new property in an excellent location - a short walk from the train station and in the heart of the main square in Ravenna. Valentino, the owner, was fabulous! nothing was too much trouble… varied breakfast of hot and cold food… our room was large and overlooked the street. the hotel is in a pedestrian area - so very safe and convenient for restaurants, shops and sightseeing. we would definitely stay there again.
The hostess gave us a warm welcome. The location was excellent, near all the main sites and only about 12 minutes walk from the station, our room was quiet and elegant
The breakfast was delicious. Bacon and eggs were on offer and were really good, made to order! There was also with a good variety of cold meat and cheese, fresh fruit, and a different cakes every day. Easily our best breakfast in Italy.
This is a great hotel with excellent location at a very reasonable price. Only 300 yards from the train station and close to all the sights. The room was a good size and very clean. Francesco is very helpful. The hotel has the added benefit of a first-class restaurant on site. It is always busy and the food is delicious. Hotel guests get 20% off. If I return to Ravenna this would be my first choice.
I'm sharing a secret here, for the benefit of the wonderful owners of this delightful hotel/B and B. Everything was great, super friendly staff, the facilities, the location in old town, the delicious breakfast Several options for parking near by. Really enjoyed this place, wish we could have stayed longer.
We felt as if we were staying in the home of a genial uncle with an eclectic, fun sense of design…not the usual canned decor of a hotel chain. The staff is helpful and gracious. Breakfast is delicious. And, it is walking distance to all the amazing UNESCO world heritage churches and baptisteries of Ravenna.
We loved everything about this place. Housekeeping was very thorough. Front desk always helpful. Breakfast was good. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The location is right by the historical center. Even our nightly rate was affordable. I can affirm that this is top class among Ravenna’s hotel option.
Perfect location close to all the sites. The owner was very helpful. He recommended a great restaurant and showed us the closet laundry, which is right across the street. This little bunny greeted us every day out in the garden. If visiting Ravenna, this is the best place to stay!
We felt like "royalty" at the palace!!! The elegant hotel was spectacular in all ways: lobby, desk personnel, parking lot, location in Ravenna, outstanding breakfast, and cozy room. The available literature was helpful. The book accompanying the room was enjoyable!
The location is just perfect – very close to the train station and to the main square, walking distance to all the major sites. The room was large and very clean. The breakfast was also good. I would stay here again if I came back to Ravenna.
beautiful palazzo
lots of common spaces
breakfast was good quality - lots of sweets as usual in Italy
our room was small but comfortable with wardrobe, desk
window looks into the courtyard which as pleasant
location at the edge of the ZTL
location-everything you want to see in Ravenna is less than 10 min walk away; good air-conditioning, reasonably priced parking in front of the hotel. Staff is very helpful, they go an extra step to satisfy a customer.
The location is perfect as it is not far from the main station. Breakfast was ok for Italy as Italians normally have a small breakfast. Room is ok but not conditioner and the beds were not that comfy.
Very nice hotel in a very good location next to the Sant Apollinare in Classe Basilica. Ideal base to visit Ravenna. The staff were amazing. The restaurant was very good.
Easy to find hotel in a good location to access Ravenna. Room was an excellent size for a family of 4, well presented and clean, we really enjoyed our stay.
