I visited Pisa as an add on to 3 days in Florence as my flight landed in Pisa from Luton. I therefore booked to stay for a 2 night stay which only really gave me one full day in Pisa.
This was just right for the leaning Tower and the buildings of the Miracoli Square including 2 museums, the Bapistry, the Duomo and the compasanto. The Duomo is stunning and the hilight but the leaning tower is a memerising sight. I managed to spend a good 5 hours there including lunch on the terrace at the museum and a timed climb up the tower booked for later in the day. (you have to book a timed slot to climb)
With hindsight i did regret not having at least one more full day in Pisa as i would have liked to have seen the rest of the city including the Botanical Gardens which was shut during my visit.
Please be aware that it gets busy so it may be worth booking the leaning tower climb online before you go.

To be honest, there is not a huge amount to view in Pisa as a tourist. Compared to Florence and Siena it feels more like a 'proper' town rather than a tourist-trap. That's not to say it isn't worth a visit; it is! The Leaning Tower is so famous it is a must-see if you are in the area. The Duomo and associated attractions are also very special for their architecture and are worth a view (in my opinion). Pisa airport is close to the city and cheaper to fly in to from London (and less busy) than flying to other Tuscan destinations, so I recommend it.
The train from the airport to the city is easy and costs about €7 but if you are more than one person take a taxi, which should work out cheaper! Also, we booked a train ticket from Pisa to Florence in advance... big mistake. There was no need to book and buying local was simple and cheap; just €8 per person. It takes an hour on the train (if you chose carefully) and if you think that the Airport to Pisa train takes 5 minutes and costs a similar amount, then one of them is good value and one isn't! I'll let you work out, which-is-which :-)
We stayed in a small hotel (Amalfitana) close to the attractions which was adequate, not great, but had a brilliant restaurant attached named "La Corte di San Leonardo"... we loved the food here so try it out, even if you do not stay at the hotel.
Don't stay too long... unless you use Pisa as a base to travel out to other towns, there's not much to do.

The leaning tower was spectacular as well as all the other buildings alongside. The 3km walk along the old city walls was also wonderful. The whole city is just full of architecture and history. I think a 2-3 day trip is a perfect amount of time. If you are there longer you can catch a bus to the coast for 2 euro or a train to Florence for about 10 euro.

Book restaurants in advance and any of the sites you want to enter. Very crowded between 11.00-18.00 around the major sites but much nicer outside these times. Can recommend Bruno's Bar for a drink or 2 and L'Ostelliono for value sandwiches that are a true delight.
5 euro to walk the top of the city walls is well worth it and so is the botanical gardens to avoid the big crowds. its fairly easy to navigate the old town but don't even think about driving unless you have 2 wheels or a guaranteed parking spot. Don't pay 8 euro for a bottle of beer in view of the tower instead just walk a few meters away and save 50%.

Pisa is a lovely city I have been lucky to visit a few times. The Leaning Tower is worth seeing, but I would suggest going in late evening or out of the tourist season. But there are other places worth checking out - this time we discovered the Nave Antica Museum - only opened in 2019 just before Covid, which houses many Roman boats from BC, which were found after flooding in 1998 - in an old horse stables - lots of gems - lovely restaurants and because it is a student town, there is always a buzz - we've been there in all seasons of the year and it is well worth visiting any time of year, although July and August are very very hot.
We really enjoyed the Pisa Tower Plaza. We arrived earlier than check in time and the staff was very accommodating. They told us that we could use the pool while we waited for them to prepare the room. Very classy. The hotel is located about a mile from the city but is easily accessible by taxi. The room was very comfortable as was the large bed. The bathroom and shower were spacious. The restaurant served good food and the staff was friendly. The pool area was well kept with plenty of lounge chairs.
Excellent location….nice quiet residential area and only 10 minute walk to the Duomo and the Leaning Tower.
Beautiful hotel environment…felt very special and we had a lovely room. Spacious and beautiful view over the garden area. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely…very peaceful. Service was excellent and staff were very welcoming. Also able to park within the grounds of the hotel.
A fabulous experience and we would definitely stay again if we were in Pisa. Highly recommended.
The location was really great very close to Pisa Centrale station which was good for us as our flight arrived late in the evening. The breakfast was amazing so good with such a variety of food including lovely fresh fruit and mini desserts eg tiramisu and yogurt with fresh fruit on it. The croissants were delicious, freshly baked and still slightly crisp- the best we have tasted in our trip to Italy. I would thoroughly recommend Hotel La Pace and it's very good value for money.
Really fantastic new hotel rooms with everything well appointed. Friendly manager too. Really great location close to the Pisa train station. If heading to Pisa to see the leaning tower, it is way easier to leave your bags and stay near the station and then be free to walk around the town. There isn't good public transit or taxis in the town, so it's easier to leave the station, find the hotel, leave your bags and then be free to go on foot.
we arrived early and Milena met us there to allow us to store our luggage until our room was ready. She referred us to a family owned pizza restaurant next to the B&B to eat at. The pizza was the best we’ve had on our trip around Italy!! When we arrived back at the time suggested Milena informed us that she upgraded our room! Such a sweet nice lady Milena is. She made our stay in Pisa perfect and memorable! Thank you again Milena!
All the staff (family??) were exceedingly attentive. The property is well located for the station, tower and airport (by taxi).
The room was well furnished with traditional Italian furniture. A very good (optional) cold breakfast spread, which, for us, was 12 euro extra each per day.
We had spent around 2 weeks travelling round Italy using 6 hotels - this was the best hotel we stayed in.
This hotel is ideally situated for a quick trip to Pisa to see all of the main tourist attractions. Easy enough to get to/from the airport/train station using public transit, and is walkable from Pisa Centrale.
They are great with luggage drop if you arrive earlier than check in, and breakfast in the morning was nice.
The hotel was clean, and comfortable and great for one night.
The owner is a such a lovely gentlemen - he made sure that we were ok and gave us few recommendation to reach Pisa airport. That s certainly not a fancy hotel/guest house, but it s a perfect location if you just have a night in pisa and you need to take the train or the airport ( 20 minutes walking).
Again, the owner was one of the nicest person I have ever met!
Pisa Happy House is the best ever place we ever stayed in, and Gianpiero is the nicest and kindest host . we arrived late and he left for us wine, cake and packed fridge with a lot of food, more then we expected.
The apartment is very spacious and stunning, much better then in the pictures, very clean, walking distance to airport, train station and city centre.
Location was excellent allowing us to come & go directly to Pisa Tower complex. Lots of eateries nearby. Supermarket walking distance. Taxi out front & bus stop over the road.
Tastefully decorated room with very comfortable bed.
Nice garden area to relax out back.
Staff are amazingly helpful & kind.
A real gem, and one of the best of all our stays in Italy.
The hotel was very close to the Pisa San Rossore train station, and a 10 minute-or-so walk from the city centre.
The room was very high in ceiling, and especially the bathroom was very clean and fresh; overall very nice.
The staff was welcoming and prepared tea/coffee in the morning and afternoon (at request).
Close to Pisa Centrale station. Ideal for an overnight on way to rest of Italy or coming back home via Pisa Airport. Very helpful, friendly and obliging staff, Excellent breakfast with a good range of choices. Quiet so you get a good night's sleep. And very reasonably priced.
Th location was great, close to the rail station and Leaning Tower of Pisa. There was plenty of restaurants and markets close by. The deli in the hotel was convenient and reasonably priced. I would recommend this hotel Verdi to anyone looking for a great value and location.
Rooms were spacious and beautiful, breakfast was delicious (loved their croissants for ex, when usually Italy doesn't have great croissants). The hosts were very attentive to all our needs and went above and beyond. The location is in the heart of a very nice part of Pisa
We wanted a hotel near Airport so that we could walk to airport for our 6 am flight. This hotel is just 200m away from airport and just took 5 mins. Served its main purpose of booking this hotel.
Really good location to the tower of Pisa, but not close to train station or airport.
The room was nice, bathroom was the best I've had in italy.
Staff were really nice and helpful
Room was amazing! It is really cheaper than the other hotels in Italy. So, if you would like to travel Florence and Pisa, this hotel is a really great choice!
