Travelers who stayed in Bologna near Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) have said good things about Hotel EMI, Hotel Del Borgo, and Villa Aretusi.
World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.
There is a lot ot see in Bologna. I particularly recommend the Madonna di San Luca Sanctuary which is perched on top of a hill and is reached by walking along a 3.7 Km portico. From the sanctuary you can enjoy views of the city and the surrounding countryside. A real gem.
From Bologna it is also possible to visit nearby old towns such as Modena, which is only a 35 minutes train ride away.

We took a local train to visit the Marconi Museum. Very small intimate museum right on the site where the first wireless message was sent. Nice to get out of town and see how regular everyday people live in Italy.

Our favorite place is Centro Commerciale Centronova and Trattoria La Montanara.
We ate great burgers in the restaurant and traditional Bolognese cuisine in the trattoria.
In Bologna we traveled by bus and car. Both options are NOT problematic. Of course the small streets are difficult, but it's not a problem. You just have to be aware of Italian driving, sometimes it's stupid and thoughtless.
I would recommend not going to the great basilica of San Petronio. The staff is terrible, they have stupid rules - for example take off your hat, and it's raining and cold outside!!! A huge basilica, but inside it is very dark and nothing can be seen. Almost all niches are closed and not illuminated. There was an uncle who wouldn't let you into the only open niche - it was for those praying!!!! And there is no one!!!! We have been to many places and cathedrals and basilicas, but nothing like this. The basilica itself remains unfinished. There are very few drawings, and nothing can be seen from the darkness. Pure waste of time. There are churches and cathedrals nearby - San Pietro Cathedral, it's very beautiful and everything can be photographed with flash.

Bologna is a great city escape for 3-4 days.
Bologna is a great city escape for 3-4 days. You can easily walk through the old streets of the town, which are full of architectural treasures. There are more than enough places to sample all the delicacies of Tuscany, such as cold cuts & cheeses, pasta dishes and of course a great aperitivo to end your day.

Bologna is a lovely city with many historic buildings and museums and dozens of fabulous restaurants. It's also a convenient centre to reach other interesting Italian cities by a short rail journey. This time we visited Ferrara and Faenza. Last visit we had a day in Modena and a few days in Ravenna. Neither Venezia nor Firenze are too far for a day trip. Maybe next time though there's still Parma and Verona on the bucket list.
Very good location, walking distance to city center and the main shopping streets, also walking distance to Bologna Centrale, where you can take the train and bus to anywhere (+airport).
The room was surprisingly clean and large, good water flow in the shower.
The breakfast had a wide selection comparing to any other 3* hotels that I have been to.
The staff was nice, offered an iron and hot water when we needed it.
Small bar in the room (not for free), but at least there is some drinks in the room if you need it.
We lived in apartment 202 at via Milazzo, 12, on the fifth floor. It is close to the train station Bologna Centrale and 15-20 minutes walk from the main square of the old town - Piazza Maggiore. Keys must be picked up at the hotel Astoria itself, a few blocks away. The apartments are quite comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need: a small stove, refrigerator, microwave, kettle, a minimum set of dishes. The beds are located away from the kitchen. The bathroom is big. Bed linen and towels are excellent.
The room was lovely and spacious, as well as very clean. We had our own private bathroom down the corridor which was huge. There was a lovely selection of teas, coffees, water in the fridge and snacks in the room when we arrived and lots of storage space. The host was absolutely lovely, met us at the apartment, booked our taxi to the airport, sent us her top tips for where to go in Bologna as well as restaurant recommendations and a map of the city centre - such a great night's stay here!
We had to pick up our friends, arrived in airport Bologna, and then drive further down to Toskana.
We already stayed in this hotel several years ago and found it very conveniently located fir our needs. Also we were very pleased by hospitality and comfort. Therefore this time we had no questions where to spend a night.
Room was very comfortable and calm although hotel is situated between airport and highway. It is surrounded by trees and makes feeling your vacation has been started.
The Hotel is a gem. It is the classic 5 stars / luxury hotel you can find in the typical art/history cities in Italy. Location could not be better and the staff is a joy to interact with: kind, vibrant and helpful. The room was immaculate and the bed very comfortable to sleep in. Make sure to have lunch or dinner at their restaurant, which is also one of the best restaurants in town, offering a modern take on some of the typical recipes of the regional cuisine.
I stayed at Hotel Emi the night before my flight out of the Bologna Airport. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. They arranged a taxi for me for the morning which made getting to the airport very easy. Also the pizza I ate in the restaurant at Hotel Emi might be the best pizza I have ever eaten. It's called the "Best Selling" and I can see why. Stay here and eat here. You will enjoy it.
Riccardo couldn’t have been friendlier and more helpful during our stay. The B&B and our room was modern and tastefully decorated. The bed was the most comfortable we had in two weeks travelling through Italy. The breakfast is more than generous and super tasty. Highly recommend.
Tip for fellow travellers: you’re not in the heart of Bologna but it’s only a 10 min bus or 20 min walk to the centre.
Perfect for a visit to Bologna. Spot on the centre with lots to see and to do around. Great decoration. Every part of the hotel has beautiful corners, like a museum full of surprises. Excellent breakfast. Also very welcome valet service with the (impeccable and decorated) garage on site (with possibility to charge EV).
Perfect location. Spotless. Rooms good size for airport hotel. Great value…
Most exceptional was a real restaurant in an airport hotel. Really excellent cuisine , linen tablecloth, exceptionally efficient staff even when slammed during the dinner hour….
A wonderful surprise for the last night of our Italy trip….
we chose this hotel because of the proximity to the airport and the airport transfer and it was a good decision since we landed late and had an early flight. Very comfortable to be able to dine at the hotel .Adequate restaurant, attentive, nice staff. Bus stop to Bologna city centre 9 minutes walking.
The staff was nice and friendly and the room itself was clean, warm and comfortable. Moreover, the location of the hotel is very good, it is close to the centre of Bologna, which is nice if you want to explore the city on foot. The price was also affordable. We liked staying there :)
This boutique hotel is excellent on so many levels: super helpful staff; great location; comfortable rooms; terrific views of Bologna; and a truly magical terrace on the top floor (some rooms have terraces too). And all for a good value. This is my new favorite hotel in Bologna!
Very comfortable room, located within easy walking distance of the train station and 15 mins to the heart (the Towers) on Bologna City centre. The hotel, the City, a great experience. We stayed 4 days and used hotel as a base visit other parts of the region. We will return.
Location is as central as you can get and host provides you with a full list of food recommendations for Italy's food capital. The benefit of staying in an 'apartment-style' accommodation in Bologna is having a fridge, microwave and dining room for all your local delicacies!
The location in the center of Bologna within walking distance of the main attractions was real treat. The rooftop terrace has a lovely view of the towers, so you feel you are in the heart of it all. The Hotel room was good and very clean. The hot shower was excellent.
The hotel's location is perfect Right opposite the Bologna central station, literally 30 seconds away. The Marconi express (airport shuttle train) is only 7 minutes from the airport. Comfy rooms and clean too. Lots of restaurants around the area too.
The room was humble but clean and pleasant. Very close the the central station allowing you to reach other cities in Italy or the airport. At the beginning of one of the main arteries that brings to the historical center (just 10 min away).
Easy walk from Bologna Centrale and from the city center. Great dining all around the hotel. Staff was very friendly. Room was comfortable. Definitely would book again. Thank you to everyone that works at the hotel :)
