FAQs about hotels in Naples

Vibrancy, Vespas, Vesuvius

Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.

At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.

While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!

Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.

As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.

We had very bad experiences with taxis (official ones) in Naples. One almost drove off with our luggage (it's good my husband opened the boot before the driver managed to take off), another one refused to turn on the meter and tried to intimidate us to pay double what the fare was worth. Even when trying to pre-agree fees, the quotes received were significantly higher than Uber. Stay away from taxis or pre-agree the fare fee (and check that it is not triple or quadruple than what it would normally be worth). Safest transport we found to be buses / metro.

Naples is not a clear city at all.

Naples is not a clear city at all. Everywhere there is a huge noise, lack of parks in the city. The availability and quality of public transportation is poor, often the bus line did not even arrive. But it is not important to me. I love this city, the atmosphere is amazing, the sea is beautiful and clear, restaurants with delicious meals. I would come back again :-)

Very interesting city. A lot to see and try. So many options for food and drinks. A lot of shops for souvenirs. There are areas of the city where is very dirty but also there are other areas where is clean and new. In general, there is something for everyone. It is a city that should be visited!

Naples is a full experience, you can't go in half hearted or a little apprehensive. It is confronting, whether that be the rubbish, the poverty, the motorbikes demanding you get out of the way, the crowds and the speed at which the pace of life travels. But it has some amazing culture, food, sights and incredible history in many layers. It also has some very wealthy areas. Naples has some incredible nearby sites- Pompei, Sorrento, Vesuvius and the Amalfi coast area. Naples won't be easy but it will be very fulfilling if you dive in.

Due to the amount of tourists, its gets very busy in certain areas and also at the train stations. The train to Pompei was cheap enough, but we were packed in a bit like sardines in a tin. The train to Herculaneum was less busy. The Catacombs were interesting, as was an Amalfi coast day trip. There are many sights to see in Naples so 5 nights was enough for what we wanted, but did not see everything. Food was good and the cakes from the bakeries were fantastic (Sfogliatella, Baba, Fioucco di neve, Cannoli), not forgetting great Pizza and Pasta.

Naples is an interesting place to visit.

Naples is an interesting place to visit. There is plenty to see for a visit of about 3 days. We enjoyed walking in the Spanish Quarter seeing the museum, underground Naples, also going up to the castle of St. Elmo on the Funicular and walking along by the port. It is a vibrant city, the historic quarter exceptionally busy and a very young scene. We used the metro to get around too. Pity about the train strike the day we had booked to visit Vesuvius.

This hotel was the grandest hotel I have ever stayed in. You can't really call it a hotel if it's a palace. It was the perfect ending to our 3.5 week trip in Italy. We had seen so many museums and palaces and then we stayed in one . Pictures and words cannot describe how Grand this Hotel was . Only a few rooms in this hotel it was something special. I am totally lost for words. It was like staying in a museum. The room was enormous. The ceilings are WOW !! If you ever stay in Naples this is a once in a lifetime place to stay.

It was truly an amazing experience and best decision to stay in Villetta Capodimonte. There is a big garden where you can rest in a lounge set or hammock after being all day in the city. The rooms are great and have everything you need. Salvatore received us and the communication was excellent with him for the whole trip. He gave us tips for our vacation in Italy and was always very attentive to our requests. Breakfast was also delicious! I fully recommend it and we would for sure stay there again when we go back to Naples.

This was my favorite property on my 10-days visit in Italy, too bad I only visited Naples for a day. It didn't disappoint as I already knew I was gonna like the property itself because of location, facade and the upper terrace. Everything is photographed as expected. But what's magical about it was the overall experience provided by the hosts (Nico and Anna) and their angel, Patrizia. I got the opportunity to be welcomed well, the Napoli way ❤️ I'll come back next year and will definitely stay in touch with them.

Excellent accommodation with friendly, helpful staff. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Location is great with easy access to Napoli centrale station and metro. Plenty of food options nearby. We read plenty of previous reviews about the bad neighbourhood but this was just a typical Naples area (maybe guests had only experienced other parts of Italy previously) - the accommodation is secure in a private building on a main street which is well lit and plenty of people around.

We stayed at Beverello Suites for one night during a short trip through Naples. The room was very comfortable, and had noticeably fast wifi compared to some other places we had stayed in Italy. Very conveniently located near the port if taking a ferry or cruise (less than 5 minute walk). Was in an older building, but was very safe (multiple entry gates and a security desk during the day), and the hotel itself was very newly renovated compared to the rest of the building.

I recently had a short stay at Hotel des Artistes in Naples, Italy, and it was truly a pleasure experience. The hotel is located in a charming and lively neighborhood with easy access to many restaurants, and shops. The best part of our stay was the welcoming staff. The staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and helpful, and they went above and beyond to ensure that my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The building was dated and the lift add to its charm.

We stayed at 3 B&Bs during our time in Italy and this place was our favourite! The coast was literally just around the corner, with so many restaurants there & within walking distance. Sebastiano kindly got us an iron for our clothes. It was so cosy, perfect for a couple or 2 friends with plenty space to move around. I'm an interior designer so I was in love with the (comfy) cushions & the beautiful entrance door, this place is a hidden gem in Naples.
