Best-known for the stunning Duomo, Florence is full of amazing buildings and its historic center. The Ponte Vecchio, a 14th-century bridge holding a multitude of shops on its edges is a stunning example and provides a truly unforgettable view.
Dig into more of the city’s historical past at the Basilica of Santa Croce, a Franciscan church full of great artwork and the burial place of Italian greats: Michelangelo and Galileo. The Uffizi Gallery is one of the world’s finest art museums and the Pitti Palace is not far behind.
For great dining, the Santa Croce district has countless options and the unique lampredotto is Florentine fast-food with a 1000-year old history. Many consider the local gelato, Italian ice-cream, to be the best in the world.

Be sure to spend enough time. 1 or 2 days will not be enough for most people. This was a second trip for my daughter, and the fourth trip for me, We spent a full week and it felt perfect. Get reservations for Ufizzi and for David at the Academia in advance. If you are climbing the Duomo you might want reservations too, or plan on getting in line early and enjoy people watching while you wait. So many things to see! The food is spectacular. Take a cooking class. We reserved a high end dinner in advance too. Even if you don't usually eat meat, the Florentine steak is magical. One steak for 2 people.
I feel sorry for the cruise ship people. They have a long commute and only part of a day.
Summer is crowded and hot. Come spring or fall if you can.
First and last: be sure to spend enough time.

Florence is a the cultural center for the arts mainly the Renaissance so the museums, along with Duomo are a major draw for tourists. Florence is a very walkable city so bring some good walking shoes! You will need to order some "timed" tickets in advance especially for the Uffizi Museum and the Academia Museum. You will also need to secure a time in advance to climb up to the top of the Duomo dome. There are several ticket packages you can get that will include all the museums BUT read the details carefully! I used the Firenze Card for the museums and the Brunelleschi pass for the Duomo. This will save you some money BUT you will need to plan a strategy in advance...Florence can get very crowded! Out side of Florence I took 3 bus/train one day excursions, 2 different Tuscany region tours and one to Cinque Terra . lots of fun but once again read the details.

We really enjoy shopping and eating at the central market. Because you can have a variety of experiences at a reasonable price. We bought some very good leather products at a specialty store near the river.
We were satisfied with the wine, food, and shopping in this city !

I was amazed at the cleanliness of the city considering the number of visitors each day the attractions were well kept and maintained, the historical sights were easy to find and explore. each corner had new surprises and things to explore. so much to do and see at every turn. would recommend a minimum of 3-4 full days to truly see half of what Florence has to offer.

The endlessly gorgeous architecture, charming streets, vibrant nightlife, and treasure trove of art everywhere you turn! The FOOD, which is almost invariably delicious -- including the produce at the supermarket, the amazingly cheap wine and coffee, and the stunningly wide selection of restaurants of all kinds. Just a fantastic and beautiful city. I could return here again and again.

We loved that you can walk everywhere easily and there is so much to do and see. They have great museums, shopping, etc. and the food is phenomenal & well priced. The uneven pavement and small sidewalks makes it a bit difficult. You definitely need comfortable walking shoes.
Staff was perfectly efficient. It was very calm at night. No drunken shouting in the corridors, although the hostel was full. It was my first experience in a hostel. Mattress was hard orthopaedic - just how j like it for my back.I had a private room similar to the hotel. And I liked my stay.
Breakfast was an extra 9 eur. But it was a good buffet. Scrumble omlet was nice to have before exploring Florence. Not in each 3-star hotel you can get it in Italy.
Check out is at 10.00. But you can use luggage room for 3 eur per day. Convenient.
The breakfast was included, and so delicious. We loved the breakfast.
"american breakfast" was found here so it was good when we were in italy for a month and missed eggs and bacon. They also had Italian style breakfast. Coffee and water were free around the clock
The staff was so nice, they really seemed to be looking out for us as we were young solo travelers, and they were so very helpful and so nice.
The room and bathroom beyond met our expectation, it was so clean and so beautiful. The nicest hotel I have ever stayed in.
The Villa itself is beautiful, with lush tapestries and furniture. Our room was spacious with a large window and bathroom. The pool deck and grounds were also stunning. The hotel is located in a neighborhood full of trees and flowers, and sits on the edge of the Boboli gardens.
The walk into the center of Florence wasn't too bad but is pretty far when you find yourself a little past the city center in the evening. They do offer a shuttle service but I believe it ends at 8pm (and dinners in Italy usually start at 7pm).
Good transport links to Florence and Fiesole.
In a very nice suburb but there is not much to explore. We have aperitivo near the hotel which was in a nice bakery.
Very comfortable room and clean. Very good shower.
Nice breakfast especially the pastries.
Fine if you're going to go out everyday.
Dinner was fine but a bit overpriced. €18 euro for a small primi, which is very different to the rest of Italy.
Wine selection is nice, again expensive compared to everywhere else in Florence
This was our first stop in Italy for two nights as we were going to Bologna on June 13. This was the first hotel room we have stayed in that had a chandelier. The staff welcomed us even though we got there at almost midnight. The breakfast was good with basic cereals, yogurt, great coffee, croissants and other pastries, cheese and ham. We came back to Hotel Martelli on June 21 after our stay in Bologna.
Florence is full of little hotels tucked away in side streets. This hotel was brilliant, boutique and filled with history. The moment we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff. We had two rooms one for us adults and another for three kids. Walking distance to cafes and restaurants. We have already said that if we ever go back to Italy we will stay longer at this hotel and enjoy Florence even more.
Every part of this hotel is EXCEPTIONAL starting with the staff who are all gracious, helpful, very very professional. I have traveled for many years and stayed in many hotels in Florence and in Italy and the Davanzati is the very best. The breakfast, the tea, the "happy hour" all over the top fabulous! the staff, the rooms, Book early because this hotel has very loyal repeat customers!
They saved us on our last day in Italy. We had just left hotel (Paganini) for all kinds of reasons and were so relieved to arrive at such a beautiful (and air conditioned hotel). Hotel reception was so kind in getting us a room and also helping us arrange our rental car return. Plenty of restaurants all around- Amazing Florence steak restaurant next door!
We were pleasantly suprised, our room was really large and decorated tastefully. Very comfortable bed with lovely bed linen. Bathroom is huge and modern with lovely bath products provided. Plenty of space to store luggage, has separate dressing area behind bed. Best hotel room we had in Italy. The staff were very kind and welcoming aswell.
We could look out of our window and see the Duomo. It was a VERY convenient location. We could come back to the room in midday and relax for a bit before heading out into Florence once again. Breakfast is served at another hotel up the street. It was the best breakfast by far out of the four places that I stayed during my trip to Italy.
It is close to all the major monuments in Florence, making it an ideal location to stay at for sightseeing the city by foot, it is also fairly close to the main train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella). Thus, making traveling through Tuscany and other regions of Italy also easy from the hotel.
Was very clean, Marina (the manager) was polite and very cute. Is not far from city center (about 20 minutes on foot). Is important to mention that the rooms have air conditioning (is indispensable in summer time, especially in Italy :)). Everything was perfect, I definitely recommend this hotel!
This place has an amazing location and was definitely the nicest place I stayed while traveling Italy. Very close to a public rail station that will take you right to all the best spots in Florence. They even let me check in early when I was just hoping to check my bags!
in this hotel you really feel in ITALy and in Florence, with authentic italian building, nice people. you do no t feel you are in an international anonymous hotel... Detail, this a direct bus to https://www.dariocecchini.com/?lang=en , 100 meter away from the hotel...
Besides being centrally located to everything a first time visitor would want to see, there was the comfort and beauty of the location. Excellent host and comfortable room that felt like you were actually in Italy rather than a prefab boring hotel room.
I was very happy that we were given a room with a balcony. Otherwise, it was a decent hotel but I felt like it could have been much better if they actually tried. This is generally the problem in Italy - no one puts effort into their jobs.
Welcoming from the moment we entered the hotel. Lemon water. Kind staff. Informative. Beautiful room. Fruit and water. Most comfortable bed we’ve had in Italy. Quiet and well appointed. Delicious breakfast. Generous checkout time.
the rooms, for Italy were spacious and clean and very comfortable. In our two week tour of italy these were probably the best beds and linens and we did stay at 4 and 5 star hotels. Staff is great, hotel is beautiful and clean.
