This experience will allow you to discover alpacas, gentle and curious animals, in a truly unique setting: a green oasis in the heart of Turin, overlooking Monviso. The experience begins at Cascina Cassotti Balbo, where our team will welcome you in front of the distinctive green gate. After a short introduction, you will learn about the history of the farmhouse and the alpacas that live on our urban farm. The first part of the experience is dedicated to meeting the alpacas: here, you will learn to recognize them, discover their daily routines, understand their sociable nature, and find out how these animals, originally from the Andes, came to live in an urban setting. An expert guide will show you how to approach and interact with them safely, giving you time to observe the nuances of their behavior and take your first photos. This is followed by an in-depth look at their personalities and interesting facts: each alpaca has a different character, and you will learn how they differ from one another, what they like to do, and how they communicate. This part is often the most enjoyable, as visitors can bond with the animals, pet them, and experience genuine interaction with them. The main part of the experience is the approximately 45-minute guided walk, which takes place along the green paths surrounding the farm and within the nearby Parco Piemonte. During the walk, each participant will have an alpaca to lead, using the equipment provided. This is a unique opportunity to slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy the urban landscape blending with nature, with stunning views of Monviso. The guide will accompany the group, sharing interesting facts about the area, biodiversity, and our model of sustainable urban agriculture. At the end of the walk, there will be a moment to pause, observe the alpacas as they graze, and reflect on the experience. Visitors often report feeling more relaxed and connected to nature, even though they are just a short walk from the city.
