The Balconata della Val Ferret is one of the most spectacular and famous panoramic trekking routes in the entire Alpine arc, located in front of the Mont Blanc massif. This extraordinary high-altitude itinerary runs along an almost flat path that winds halfway up the slope, giving hikers a monumental and close-up view of the perennial glaciers, the Grandes Jorasses, and the Dente del Gigante. The classic route runs along a section of the famous Tour du Mont Blanc, ideally connecting the Giorgio Bertone Refuge to the Walter Bonatti Refuge, before descending again towards the valley floor at Arnouvaz. Walking on this route means immersing yourself in unspoiled nature, among flowering alpine meadows and glacial moraines, suspended between the green of the valley and the blinding white of Europe's highest peaks. From a technical point of view, the hike is classified as a hiking excursion (E). It does not present any particular difficulties or exposed sections, requiring only a normal level of training for mountain walking and an initial vertical drop to reach the altitude of the balcony. It is the perfect route for those seeking an unforgettable experience that combines the majesty of the high mountains with the accessibility of a well-marked and safe trail. Our adventure will begin in the morning in the center of Courmayeur, where we will board the free shuttle to Lavachey. From here, a well-marked trail surrounded by greenery will lead us uphill to the famous Rifugio Walter Bonatti, perfect for our first refreshing break. It is precisely at this point that the majesty of the Mont Blanc massif will be revealed in all its glory, with its sharp ridges and legendary peaks. Once we resume our journey, we will follow the scenic Balconata trail: an easy route, characterized by gentle and relaxing ups and downs, which will take us to the Giorgio Bertone Refuge, our second refreshment stop, where we can have lunch and sample the dishes of typical Alpine cuisine. After a stop to admire the final panorama, we will embark on the easy final descent that will take us directly back to Courmayeur.
