Undulating beside the Bay of Naples, this UNESCO World Heritage city is a maze of narrow streets and cable cars. Although it has an incredible array of churches and monuments, it’s the sheer energy, pulsating life, and buzz of Vespas that really make it exciting.
At first you could mistake this for chaos, but given time you’ll see there’s method to the madness. The stunning, curved portico of the Royal Palace. The perfectly thin pizzas which originated here. The red pepper trinkets to ward off the evil eye adorning practically every old town doorway. All are crafted to perfection.
While all this goes on at street level, below is Underground Naples – a series of tunnels you can visit and even a Graeco-Roman theater which you stop at before emerging into someone’s house!
Head up to the Posillipo area for stunning views of the city and Vesuvius in the distance. The volcano itself can be visited and looking down from it towards Pompeii and Herculaneum gives context to the thousands of artifacts now on display in the city’s National Archaeological Museum.
As for accommodations, Booking.com has a wealth of hotels near Naples Airport, old town B&Bs, city center apartments and more to help you make the most of your stay.

This was our 2nd visit to Naples because that's where the closest airport was. Traffic was terrible with no rules as the taxi drivers said, It was noisy and not exceptionally clean. Book the museums early if you want a chance of getting in. The pizza was a HUGE disappointment! We ate at one of the most highly recommended pizza places and there was no favorable comparison to other pizzas that we've eaten in Europe, Asia, and America. Sorry, but hype usually turns into disappointment.

Love the atmosphere in Naples.
Love the atmosphere in Naples. It has such a rich history and culture that there are endlessly many buildings and museums to see. The food is cheap and delicious. The only downside is the poverty, lots of homeless people and buildings are in terrible state, but fortunately it doesn't feel unsafe.

Napels is loud, dirty, polluted, traffic crazy, road terrible, driving in the city dangerous, as no rules are observed. But... it's charming too, and the food is gorgeous, little more difficult if you are veggietarian.
The people were lovely, the piazzas fantastic, the museums a must.
We however, went exploring outside the city on motorcycle. So not sure how easy it is by public transport. Oh, and the people of Napoli celebrate every occasion with fireworks! Many birthdays in a big city. But it didn't bother us, once we knew what's going on. The produce on the food and fish market are amazing. And when in Napoli definitely explore the Amalfie Cost, its magical.

Naples has been touted to be a dangerous place to visit.
Naples has been touted to be a dangerous place to visit. I have been there five times. Perfectly safe to my mind. Places not to be missed - Santa Chiara Cloister, the Duomo and the incredible Tezoro di San Gennaro, the Royal Palace, the San Carlo theatre, the Archeological museum, the Capodimonte museum, Via Toledo and its narrow side streets where you get the really good food, and if there is time choose between the magnificent Reggia di Caserta and Pompeii. I stayed at the NH Panorama Hotel, but was disappointed.

I liked the Royal Palace, Archeological Museum, Duomo, the church Gesu Nuovo, Capella San Severo, the Palace Capodimonte, the Royal Palace from Caserta, the Capri Island. I didn’t like that the town is dirty, very croweded and a lot of pollution.

Disappointed in some historical sights and felt a little "ripped off". The Palace of Capodimonte was only open on the top floor with only religious art on display. The first floor however was closed and was what we had gone to see. We were not told this when we paid admission and had been charged the full admission costs as though the whole museum had been open.
The main art gallery the Zevallos Palace Art Gallery was small and the caravaggio (their main exhibit) was on loan elsewhere. The main Archaeological museum had their coin and jewel galleries closed, yet again no reduction in admission fees. Pompeii also had areas closed including the colosseum, where it looked they putting in seating for a concert. We would not return to Naples and thought it was not a patch on Genoa (where we visited the year before) for history and art.
Naples was also very scruffy, graffiti everywhere, piles of rubbish on the streets and the smell of urine on several streets in the historical quarter. Many of the streets were missing cobbles and the whole city had a run down no longer cared for vibe.
Scooters are a menace driving round at ridiculous speeds, driving on pavements and coming out of side streets etc., without notice. As with other cities mothers on mobile phones while kids climbed on art works and kicked footballs around, even in the Palazzoe Reale and main square area. There were also illegal street sellers selling copies of designer goods all over the city.
It was truly an amazing experience and best decision to stay in Villetta Capodimonte.
There is a big garden where you can rest in a lounge set or hammock after being all day in the city. The rooms are great and have everything you need.
Salvatore received us and the communication was excellent with him for the whole trip. He gave us tips for our vacation in Italy and was always very attentive to our requests.
Breakfast was also delicious!
I fully recommend it and we would for sure stay there again when we go back to Naples.
This was my favorite property on my 10-days visit in Italy, too bad I only visited Naples for a day.
It didn't disappoint as I already knew I was gonna like the property itself because of location, facade and the upper terrace. Everything is photographed as expected. But what's magical about it was the overall experience provided by the hosts (Nico and Anna) and their angel, Patrizia. I got the opportunity to be welcomed well, the Napoli way ❤️
I'll come back next year and will definitely stay in touch with them.
EVERYTHING It was new, clean but the absolute shining star was the staff hospitality! The room was very spacious, as well as the bathroom and the sitting area outside was lovely. The rooms are exactly like I would design. The community kitchenette is well stocked for breakfast, fresh fruit and snacks. I travel for a living and have never been treated better. Daniella is now my favorite person in all of Italy! We extended our stay in Napoli because of this hotel *****
The flat is a bit claustrophobic and not light enough. The double bed is 2 singles who kept moving away from each other. The breakfast is composed of cakes, jam, nutella and sweet drinks. Too much for me!!!! This is not my type of breakfast but that how it is in Italy unfortunately. The transport near the house is quite rare, so need to walk to take any bus, when they exist!!!!. I found the transport in Naples horrendous. That has nothing to do with El Nido.
We really enjoyed staying here. It was a transit base, and had the best bed and shower of most of the places we stayed in Italy.
It was close to the train station and the airport.
The room was a really nice size and was very relaxing.
We had a great pizza from around the corner, apparently one of the best places for pizza in Naples.
We had to leave early for a flight, so they kindly prepared a takeaway breakfast for us which we really appreciated.
The space is interesting & beautiful. Definitely a great value too! Our host Pina was so available & attentive to any questions. We felt like she's a distant relative wanting us to have the best travel experience. Our room actually had better amenities than many of the hotel rooms through our Italy travels with coffee & tea makers as well as small fridge with cool filtered water waiting : )
This is a superb place. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who were friendly and very attentive to every need. Gorgeous decor, very comfortable room and bed and spectacular bathroom. Cool and relaxing place to return to after sightseeing. Highly recommend, the nicest place we've stayed in Italy. Like a five star hotel, the staff are awesome! Thank you for all your kindness.
Older building that they had totally remodeled to feel very current - but still left some cool touches, like being able to see the old flooring in the ceiling. Most comfortable bed we had across 4 hotels in Italy. The staff was very responsive by way of the Booking app so we had assistance at any time, even though there was no one as the front desk most of the time.
Good location, not very far away from downtown and the historic center. There are several commerces around which facilitate finding something to eat. Although the location is crowded (Italy :) ) the local is pretty quiet and agreeable, and even in summer is not hot at all inside because they have air-conditioning. I definitely go back next time I'll be in Naples
We were greeted very friendly by the staff upon arrival and our rooms were already available for us. We stayed 2 nights and wish we could have stayed more. The hotel location is amazing (less than 1 min walk from the main T-station of Naples). The breakfast we had there was the best we had in italy with a lot of variety and tasty food.
Location and breakfast were excellent. We needed a comfortable place to sleep after an overnight flight US to France and then on to Italy; this hotel was basic in many ways but suited us just fine. Only one "restaurant" in proximity (actually a bar serving bar food), but the short-ish walk to Naples airport was OK to find food.
Fantastic location right in the middle of the shopping strip and near the Spanish quarters. Fantastic restaurants, shopping, Gelato and Pizza all at your doorstep. The hotel was very cute.
I didn't know what to expect from Naples but it was definitely one of my favourite cities in Italy. I'm so glad I made the trip to see it.
There was a choice of a savoury or sweet breakfast which was great as a savoury breakfast is not usually an option in Italy! We had a lovely room with a balcony which we chose to have breakfast on. The hotel is in a great position for visiting many locations in Naples and is not too far from the airport.
Amazing stay! The staff was incredible and the room was the best we’ve had in Italy so far. They have comfiest beds and the BEST AC. I could’ve stayed at even longer. They made our stay in Naples amazing.
This was one of the best hotels during our 3 weeks stay in Italy; very nice rooms ; modern; great shower; nice area ; walking distance from the port and in a beautiful building - recommended !!
Hotel was lovely. The staff were brilliant. They stored my bicycle, then helped me pack it and carried it to the taxi for me. Really appreciated it being tired after cycling across Italy
it was the best experience I had in south Italy, the hotel make you feel like a special guest. All the amenities were amazing, food was great and all the staff treated tou very nicely .
Everything was perfect. Salvatore was really helpfull, gave us a lot of usefull tips. Best breakfast we've had in italy and the location is right in the heart of Naples.
