There was a leak in the toilet, it kept running all night and it kept me up. When I brought this to the hotel staff's attention, they immediately came to my room to address the issue. They kindly and promptly accommodated me. They moved me to a more comfortable room right away. They even gave me a gift at check out. Everybody is very friendly and sweet. Breakfast was amazing. Lots of options. The proximity to the train station is an absolute plus. I had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to come back to this hotel again.

Greeted by Rafaele in the evening. Very kind and helpful. He even offered to upgrade us to a slightly larger room as it was available that night. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant which was reasonably priced and good. The property is very well maintained, clean, and comfortable. If you have a car and prefer staying out of the city center this is ideal.

Once Italy’s 2nd largest city-state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognizable historic center is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely "passeggiata."
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade, where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheater remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More sidewalk restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini, the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodations includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.

Of all the "hill towns" in Tuscany and Italy, Lucca remains our favorite. It has it all- wonderful compared to the larger cities overrun with tourists. Beautiful Puccini and Boccherini concerts. Truly friendly shop and restaurant owners, as in many of the smaller Tuscan towns. Great choice of restaurants and gelaterias. A wonderful passagiata every night. There was a memorable sculpture exhibition there in May. Viva Tuscany- Viva Lucca!

Lucca is a compact mediaeval town where everything is within easy walking distance.
This was my third trip and there were still places I have not explored. This time I made a point of visiting the Cathedral and associated museums.
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and would offer a few suggestions:-
1, Cathedral - excellent leaflet explaining. Would be improved if the age of the different elements was indicated - by colours or hatching.
2. Church of St Giovanni and Reparata - wonderful excavations but signage could be much better. The coloured maps were good, but more help relating them to the features on the ground would have been appreciated.
3. Cathedral Museum - superbly set out with very useful information sheets in each room. Noticed that some visitors were confused by the numbers for the audio guide, thinking they related to the printed sheet. The difference needs to be made clearer. Also, the English translation could be improved.

Great place to hire bikes, flat cycling around town and city walls. We
managed to cycle out to the hills south of Lucca and followed trails that were stunning. Great wildlife including Nightingales singing (April-May)

Lucca is a great small place for relaxing and enjoying the Italian way of life. It's got a lot of History and summer festivals, comics and cinema festivals too. That's why it's called 'La Cittã d'Arte' (The City of Art).
It's also a good basis/starting point in case you wanna visit other places in Tuscany. For example, Pisa is only about a 25-min train ride from Lucca, among others.
For a fresh made panini or burger, head to Porta Santa Maria (one of the big gates that give access to Lucca's old town) and find 'Chiosco Il Gatto Nero' - a panini/subs kiosk. 5 Euros will definitely get you a proper sandwich there!!!

Lucca is a very special place and the walled city even more special with Albergo San Martino being the ideal place to stay. The staff are as charming as the city and the comfortable well appointed rooms and the delicious breakfasts complimenting the whole experience. The architecture and townscape provide the environment for dining experiences like no other and ease of access from Pisa using the PisaMover and train from Pisa Central Railway Station couldn't be easier.

Serene country side, great place to relax.
Serene country side, great place to relax. So many things to do and see so coming back here each day was amazing. Lucca's walled city is very big, could spend at least 2 days walking through. The wall is so big it has a double lane road for what used to be for cars and is now used for exercise and the enjoyment of walking around the city. Location is close to Pisa, and also Cinque Terre. We actually drove to Santa Margherita and caught the ferry to Portofino for the day. 1.5hr drive but definitely worth it.
Superbe boutique hôtel on the rolling hills of Tuscany near the lovely village of Lucca. The hotel has stunning views, especially from the pool. The hotel is extremely peaceful. It’s very calming. Our suite was very large with a seating area (with a rollup couch), a very large bedroom and a very dreamy bathroom. Tv's in both seating and bedroom areas. Pool towels are available in the room. We did not have a balcony but the view was amazing. The staff is kind, generous, extremely helpful and professional.
The apartment couldn't have been in a better location and our host Claudia was very helpful with parking and local information. Lucca is a beautiful city and this hotel looks directly into the main piazza, its close to shopping and plenty of restaurants. The apartment is very spacious and the beds are comfortable. In the evening we were worried about the live music playing outside in the piazza keeping us awake, but when we shut the windows you couldn't hear a thing! We would highly recommend!
This was such a beautiful place. The unique design of each rom was outstanding. Of the four places we stayed at this was my favorite by far and the only one I'm reviewing. Comfortable and calm and beautiful. The breakfast was yummy. Check in and communication was outstanding. Cities in Italy are difficult to navigate with all the limited zones and narrow streets. The owner, Franca, was able to tell me how to get there properly and where to park securly. It was a big help.
We had a wonderful stay in beautiful La Villa Tuia. Many thanks to Manuela and Monica for the warm welcome, comfortable and relaxing Azalea-room and delicious breakfast.
These cheerful powerladies used to run a much larger hotel on the Italian riviera together and just arrived in Lucca in June 2021 to open up this lovely boutique B&B. Lucky us! The service is totally on point and their sense of style immaculate.
Would definitely recommend. Great location too!
We know the best parts of Lucca are inside the city walls, do not be put off by the fact this is outside. It is just five minutes to the city, so very close, it has parking which is useful for those with luggage, much easier than some of the accommodation inside the walls. The rooms were tasteful, the whole place has a lovely feel to it. We were only there for one night but came away wishing we'd stayed longer. Breakfast was perfect.
Alessia was such a lovely, friendly, helpful host.
The apartment is spacious and comfortable.
It is extremely well equipped.
We enjoyed having our breakfast on the balcony each morning.
The shower is good.
We stayed at the end of May, and temperatures were 22°-25°. However, the apartment stayed nice and cool.
We enjoyed the 20-30 minute walk into the centre of Lucca and seeing more of the city rather than just inside the walls.
Absolutely lovely. The property it’s an oasis of calm & serenity as it has a massive garden in the back that seems more ljke a park with big tall trees than a simple garden.
Staff is so kind and nice. Really makes the whole place and staying there a wonderful experience.
If you’re driving or cycling stay here not in a hotel. Location is 10 min drive from Lucca city centre so a vehicle (of any shape or form) is necessary
The location is perfect for those needing quiet at night and it offers easy access to Lucca's wonderful wall. The apartment is quite comfortable, clean, and two full baths with excellent water pressure were a rare bonus in our experience staying in Italy. Very good wi-fi and an elevator --another huge (and rare) advantage! Agnese welcomed us warmly and stayed to help us access wi-fi and answer all our questions.
Great location, within the old walls and just a few steps from supermarkets and restaurants. It was pristine clean, with comfy beds, nice bed linen and towels, extra pillows, duvets etc. Kitchen was tiny but well equipped. Staff were great, flexible with check-out time, and gave us great tips on restaurants and very useful & accurate information about parking (which can be a nightmare in Italy).
we had a fab bedroom looking out to the street where we watched people having a great time eating and enjoying Lucca below us.
The breakfast was great ...one of the best of my trip around this area of Italy so thank you, Hotel la Luna, we are making plans to return soon.
When we were leaving, we actually came back to have a drink in the bar on their lovely outside terrace.
A fantastic hotel lovingly restored a very high quality. Ideally located, easy secure parking and just a short walk to the centre of old Lucca. We stayed 2 nights on our big European tour and saw KISS playing in Lucca. Great location and really great friendly hosts/owners of this boutique hotel. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to others.
The staff are fantastic! They are very friendly and welcoming. The location couldn't be better. On the edge of old town; 1 min walk and you're there. Quiet, safe. Italy won't allow running air conditioning before May 1, so they brought me a fan :) Breakfast is extended continental. Very tasty, and there is plenty to get you going.
The location, with parking, was just great for us. The rooms were simple but very comfortably furnished with some lovely personal touches. The host was just brilliant and worked around our timings which took the pressure off checking in and potential delays at the airport. We would go back if staying in Lucca.
Excellent location, less than 15 min walk from train station, nice cafe's, restaurants, and gelateria within few mins walk... Hotel Ilaria is ideal base for exploring Lucca. Lovely staff throughout the hotel, smiley and helpful. Hotel spotlessly clean. Great breakfast. Would happliy stay again.
Our favorite stay during our 2-week visit to Italy. We enjoyed Prosecco from our balcony overlooking the rooftops of Lucca. Wonderful staff, especially Roberto, who provided us with exceptional customer service. Outstanding breakfast too!
The property was well situated in the centre of Lucca with parking. It was slightly dated in parts but everywhere was clean and it perfectly suited my needs at a good price. The staff were all helpful and very nice.
Well located inside the walls of Lucca, the accommodation was clean, comfortable and had excellent facilities. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and breakfast was fabulous.
